We had real issues with the staff wanting a print out of the vouchers which they hadn't told us they needed when we booked over the phone. We had to pay again at the venue and then get a refund weeks later. Not a great start for a 'relaxing' spa day with friends… The actual massage and spa facilities were great though.
Off to a good start with friendly receptionist, free towel, robe and slipper hire. Quite a nice swim etc... not the most luxurious pool setting (view onto some weeds in the industrial park, dodgy paint work), but fairly clean and not too busy. Lovely sauna. Waiting room for treatments is really, really, small, just room for 1 sofa and a couple of chairs. It was literally just a windowless box made of partioned walls. Decorated suitably for sure, but sometimes a rat in a petticoat is just that. There was already 4 people in it, and they asked 3 more of us to wait as well - I waited outside. Fully clothed - the whole robe thing is a bit redundant - it doesn't feel right to be in the corridor far from the therapy room in the dressing gown. Maybe that's just me... but most other gym-goers wandering around, and people in the cafe are fully dressed. I'm sure the rooms in that place could be better situated. Therapist was very pleasant, although they did have a bit of a bad cough, which was of course not her fault, but not very relaxing. Facial was OK - had specified that I have really sensitive skin but didn't really feel assured that the products used were specifically for sensitve skin. Left feeling a bit sore a blotchy to be honest. Good massage technique. Therapist gave me freebies 'because of all the coughing'... although the package I bought did come with samples. Was a good value deal... probably a fairly good place to be a member of if you live locally (for the pool/gym etc) - friendly staff, clean, good facilities... but not a particularly luxurious spa day. Maybe Duncan should rebrand as a private leisure centre?
Bannatynes is a health club with what looks like excellent facilities for keeping fit. It is not a quality spa, it has a small jacuzzi next to a pool (used for aqua aerobics) and small sauna and a steam room which had no lighting (apparently broken). The treatment area was again small and with very poor lighting which I assume is done to create some kind of ambience. The relaxation room was a cupboard next to the cafe area, so quiet noisy. All facilities are unisex which can be uncomfortable when trying to squeeze into small spaces. And most of the facilities are used by people taking advantage of the gyms, not those looking for some kind of relaxing escape. All in all not a day spa for a relaxing visit, I would not recommend.
We had a fab day, started with gym, then pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and then finished off with a Swedish Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage with a Scalp Massage. Would definately do it again.
Excellent facilities and the therapist was very professional. This was my first time getting a spray tan and I was very pleased with the results, the therapist made me feel at ease and the results were a very natural looking tan, great in the winter!
