the wahanda Athenaeum deal was good value and an ideal pick me up for me just after moving house. Both myself and my friend were pleased that we could have our treatments in the same room. The massage was great and the nail painting happened during the facial which was super relaxing!
I had bought the deal for 2 course lunch and a mini manicure for myself and my friend and It was so much fun, we both really enjoyed ourselves, It was just lovely. The hotel is very smart but the staff make you feel really welcomed. Our lunch was just great! We both made a slight change to our main course (chicken) and they were happy to oblige with no fuss. In fact they made a fuss of us! The chef was on hand and he urged us to try everything and talked us through the buffet deserts and cheeses - all the staff were so nice, good attitude, good food, and the manicure was lovely too. We really had a lovely time and it is due to the staff being so friendly and making us feel so welcomed with the service. Would definitely go again.
My friend and I have been to many many Spas before as we like to treat ourselves quite often and the Athenaeum Spa was one of our best experiences. We had booked ourselves in for a full body deep tissue massage and Ren Facial, the massage was to die for! I personally like the pressure to be quite firm and other place i have been never seem to carryout the perfect pressure however the therapists hands were amazing (just what i needed) The facial was extremely relaxing and incorperated lovely massage movements to 'help tones and lift the skin'. When we came out of the treatment we relaxed in the lounge and helped ourselves to complimentary refreshments which was an added bonus. therapist were very friendly and very happy to help. Overall, we both had a lovely day and will definately be returning SOON!
Agree with the other reviewers. Again space is at a premium here but it's laid out much nicer than the old setup. I've been there before the spa was re-furb. Now it's more pleasant and actually brighter looking although I have to say the orange theme running through that place can be a bit too much after you have been there a while. The wan't too much of a relaxing are as it's near the main stairways where the people come down from the main lobby and it's open area so people moving about and entering and leaving the spa will intrude into that relaxing area. They don't have loungers but armchairs instead which also doesn't encourage you to relax after your treatments. My friend and I went on an opening offer deal and the massage and facial were worth it at that price which was 50% off. I wouldn't pay full price for a facial or massage there as there are other places that does it better at the same price. The changing room is the pits. It reminds me of those Dove chain spas where their changing facilities are more locker room style. Nothing relaxing at all about this place and the shower cubicle is ridiculous. There is only one shower. And it's like those you find in the dingy studios apartments dotted all around london where they squeeze the shower cubicle almost like in a cupboard. It's actually laughable as someone larger than say a size 16 UK can forget about getting in there as you can barely turn. However the receptionist and the therapists were extremely well-mannered and carried out their duties very professionally.
This made my day. Honestly! The staff were nice and helpful. I actually loved how everything was in a small confined space. I went with a friend and it made us feel like it was all there just for our personal use. So intimate. We enjoyed everything from using the facilities to the massage. The only thing that probably knocks off a point is that, we were fully awake for our massages and it seemed to be over too quickly. We were meant to have a 1 hour massage but it seemed more like 40-45 mins. And we didn't have the hot towel compress which was listed on our voucher. Despite that, everything else was so brilliant for us, we left happy, content and relaxed. And looking forward to our next visit. : )
