It was lovely and relaxing - just make sure you arrive in plenty of time to make the most of your day. The afternoon tea was just delicious too so make sure you are also hungry!
We opted for a "stress-buster" deal.....£55.00 for all-day use of pool, gym, sauna, steam-room plus 2 treatments. We arrived at 10am and were then briefed on health issues. We filled in a fairly detailed questionnaire and were checked out for our suitability for the day. Not something you get at every spa! It was all very welcoming.....good shower/change facilities, comprehensive buffet/bar (you pay for this) and a great pool with jacuzzi etc. The 2 treatments (body exfoliation and shoulder massage) were excellent and we left at about 4.30pm having had a very enjoyable and relaxing day.
Apparently Rookery Hall was where David Beckham proposed to Posh spice and where they announced their engagement, so I had very high expectations when I booked and I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed. We stayed here for 2 nights in June this year and had an amazing time. The hotel was smaller than I had imagined from the image on the web but just as elegant and beautiful, with gorgeous grounds. We stayed in an executive double room, located in a new building to the side of the mansion itself. At first I was disappointed not to be staying in the older mansion but the room more than made up for this. It was beautifully decorated, very modern yet still classy with a huge bed, plasma TV and a lovely sofa area to relax with stunning views over the Cheshire countryside. The bathroom was pure luxury with a large separate shower with jets and there was even a flat screen TV built into the wall above the bath - pure indulgence! We ate at the hotel restaurant both nights, which is a beautiful room with many original features including a lovely open fireplace, huge windows and oak panelling on the walls. Although the food and drink here is expensive, it was worth every penny. The staff made us feel very special, nothing was too much trouble for them and the food on both nights was just scrummy. We visited the spa on our second day which was conveniently situated in a separate building near our room, so we didn’t have very far to walk. There is a large pool, perfect for doing some laps and a very large and thoroughly relaxing hydrotherapy pool which had massage jets for your back, feet and shoulders. There was a gym although I didn't venture up there! We both had a very relaxing ESPA full body massage, which was conducted at the same time in a beautiful dual treatment room which had the most comfortable beds I've ever felt. They had a heated blanket on them so I was lovely and warm which made me feel so relaxed that I drifted off to sleep mid treatment! After our treatment we went for a lie down in the relaxation room which had the most stunning wall of water that continuously cascades down. With my eyes closed I could easily have been in a tropical setting rather than in rural England. I’ve stayed at a few of the Handpicked hotels over the years and they have always been great but Rookery is now definitely my favourite. I can’t wait to go back.
