At our point of arrival I thought that all was well from previous correspondence with Wahanda. Of course my friend and I were very disappointed to hear that we were not on the booking system having travelled to London specifically for the treatment. Fortunately, the spa staff were very accommodating and offered us the use of the spa facilities (which would usually cost £50) and booked us in for our paid treatment for another day. My friend and I enjoyed various steam and sauna rooms of different scents (our favourite was the pine and eucalyptus seam room) and an amazing monsoon shower! The day was not a complete loss however, from speaking to the spa staff this has not been the first time that a Wahanda customer has had such disappointment. I would suggest that Wahanda revisit their booking system to avoid such disappointment in the future.
We have used the thermal baths at the Ironmonger before and we do like the facilities. The staff were helpful and explained how the order in which we should use products. We weren't expecting the mud to be soapy and once you're waiting for the steam it's a bit tingly. The steam took a long time to come through and once it did it didn't really fill up that much. We also had a bit of a reaction to the oil on our face. The products did leave our skin feeling smooth but I would say the thermal spa is better value.
Hubby and I took a bit of time to ourselves for the rasul treatment. We found the baths easily, but didn't realise the main reception isn't the reception for the spa. Tip: go round the corner and straight downstairs, no need to wait in the main reception queue! We were slightly disappointed to learn that the rasul treatment didn't include access to the steam rooms afterwards, but after the treatment we realised we didn't need it. Still, if we had paid the full £60 we would have felt the steam rooms should have been included. Fortunately, we only paid £30 for the two of us, which made the whole thing great value. The treatment itself was good - it was intimate in a non-erotic way, although I cannot see 'friends' doing this together! We stripped and covered ourselves in the soap, washed it off, then covered ourselves in the mud, and sat waiting for the steam to come. It took a while and we thought it was over and we were disappointed when it finally began (with a weird music and light show). The steam was good, pretty warm at times, and the showers after cleansed everything off. The water was boiling though, far too hot for me, so would have preferred an adjustable temperature gauge. Our skin was positively glowing afterwards, and super-soft. We left feeling nice and relaxed, happy, close, and hungry!
The spa itself was lovely - spotless with a great atmosphere and the facilities were really great with lots of options and space to relax. My therapist couldn't have been better and the treatment itself was lovely - i felt thoroughly spoilt.
What a fantastic retreat! My friend and I spent a fabulous few hours at this spa in Islington, apparantly run by the council. It didnt look like anything I'd ever experienced by a local council. We entered the spa for a fee of £25 per person and when looking online for spa days this was by far one the best value for money, Irina and I enjoyed a full body hammam scrub which left the skin feeling tremendous! I would definitely recommned this spa to my friends in future and I will definitely be heading back when I am in need of my next relaxation session. Thanks team spa for making our day so enjoyable, we really did leave feeling lifted and refereshed ready to face the world in the busy streets of Islington
