Given that Champneys has got such a good name for itself I would have expected slightly better. The use of mobile phones is not discouraged and throughout the day head numerous phones ringtones followed by people (including staff) speaking very loudly. One of the treatment receptionists was so engrossed speaking loudly to another colleague about a therapist they weren't aware that a few people waiting for treatments, were looking directly at her There was an indoor pool which was mainly being used by swimming enthusiasts and not much room for a leisurely swim for those who would have enjoyed one. The jacuzzi was a decent size. I didn't feel the ambiance was that of a relaxation spa but more of a "gym type" spa. I had 2 treatments, the first was the tui'nai, the therapist was very good but felt the need to keep making conversation throughout the treatment, which was very friendly but not so relaxing. The second treatment was a facial, I did feel although the treatment did what it said, the therapist was very quick and it felt rushed. We did enjoy a buffet lunch, which had a wide variety of choice for both meat eaters and vegetarians. We received complementary drinks on arrival which made a good start however there was a member of staff in the upstairs refreshments that appeared as if she didn't want to be there and could do with a course in customer service. I did feel that the day itself was good value for money, and if I were to visit a Champneys spa in future would maybe try a different site.
Champneys Henlow is a very impressive building with very friendly staff, excellent food and great activities available all day. Unfortunatly the package that we had meant we had to leave our room at 11am which was straight after our treatments. This unfortunatly changed our very relaxed state to rushing about to leave the room on time and get to the class we had booked. I would recomend if possible getting the treatments on the day of arrival, leaving the next day to use the spa and classes freely.
I purchased one of the one night spa breaks for £30 (bargain!) and visited just before Christmas. Champneys Henlow is definitely in need of a refurbishment (some already underway) but still offered a relaxing break for me & a friend. More of a health retreat than spa so think of low frills but lovely setting retreat.
I visited Champneys with a group of friends and had a really nice time. We were a bit worried about the healthy eating aspect of the menu but my meals were all very tasty and I was definitely not hungry at all during my stay. The room was well appointed and comfortable and we did make good use of the lounge as we were a large group and the rooms would not accommodate us all. Found the staff lovely both in the spa and at the restaurant, always very helpful too. But the crème de la crème of this facility is most definitely the treatments and the standard at which they are carried. I had an Elemis Ocean Aroma wrap and a gel manicure at Champneys. Both my therapists were amazing. They explained all the procedures and I was so happy with the Elemis products used that I ended up taking advantage of a gift pack in the shop! I definitely felt very relaxed and would have had more treatments too during the day but left it too late to book and there was no availability. Despite this the lady in reception made a very good effort to try and accommodate me, so I was very pleased. Thank you all at Champneys for a great stay!
I visited Champneys for an overnight stay, the spa itself is very grand as you drive through the gates and past the main house. Set in beautiful surroundings you really feel the relaxed atmosphere from the outset. I had booked myself in for a Personalised Facial the next morning and my therapist, Virginia, talked through my skin type and what products would work best for me. I was then offered a choice of hand, feet or head massage during the ‘mask’ stage for my facial. I opted for the head massage and I was not disappointed! The facial was very thorough, incorporating exfoliation, cleanse, tone, mask and moisturise. She also gave me a full run down of the products she’d used on me and some suggestions of what might be good for me to incorporate into my skin care regime. There was nice relaxing music playing during the treatment and the beds were warm and very comfortable. It was a really lovely experience. The food during our stay was lovely, really tasty and surprisingly filling, the lunch was great value with a wide range of salad options and a hot buffet which added to an already great experience.
