Vamp up your blood. If you’re always feeling a little run down, this strange treatment claims to give your health a boost... by taking your blood and giving it a good spring clean. Warning: not for the fainthearted…
Blood cleansing, otherwise known as UVB therapy is a fairly new treatment to hit our shores. It may sound like something out of a Halloween horror film, but this 15 minute treatment has been widely recognised in Germany and Russia for years, and now it’s going global.
UVB, also known as photo-biological stimulation therapy, involves a small amount of blood (about 50ml) being extracted from your body and passed via a tube connection to a machine where it’s briefly exposed to UV light and then redirected back into your blood stream. Simple…
The blood curdling treatment is supposedly meant to improve your overall health and wellbeing. It claims not only to energise you, but aid a whole host of medical and skin concerns too, from strengthening your immune system, to reducing symptoms of diabetes and even improving skin conditions such as acne and dermatitis.
The science behind this ghoulish treatment is that when there is not enough oxygen in the blood, there is also a lack of energy in the bloods cells, which can lead to poor circulation. This is when illness can strike.
This slightly extreme therapy claims to re-oxygenate the bloodstream, therefore providing a much-needed boost to your immune system. By exposing it to ultraviolet light the blood is cleansed and purified.
If you don’t like looking at blood, needles or are squeamish in general, this probably isn’t for you. It is also pretty expensive, and for full results a course of treatments is recommended so you may want to save up and (trick or) treat yourself.
As it’s still the new kid on the block of treatments, it’s advisable for you to get the OK with your doctor first, and do make sure you check out the clinic before you go.
