Banish those sunspots and dark circles. Skin lightening treatments use natural acids to whiten the tone of your skin, giving a glow where you had shadows and evening-out hyper-pigmentation, acne marks and liver spots.
There are a lot of different skin lightening products available that you can use at home, but if you visit a salon for the treatment, they’re likely to be using a cream with a percentage of hydroquinone. This is the active element that bleaches the skin.
The treatment will normally take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the concentration of the cream they are using. Before they start painting your dark patches, though, your therapist will prepare your skin using a gentle exfoliant. Then, once you’re smooth, clean and ready to shine, the product will be applied in the correct areas and either left to do its magic or accelerated using a spritz of pure oxygen. You may feel a tingle, but the creams are not generally considered to be painful.
Once the treatment is complete, you’ll be treated to a restorative moisturising mask to calm any drying effect of the cream. So, not only will your skin be lighter and brighter, but silky-smooth too.
While one treatment can be enough to temporarily fix a just a slight blemish or shadow, for more extensive or deeper marks, you might be in for the long haul with regular treatments. It’s also important to bear in mind that the results are not always flawless and not all dark patches or scars can be treated – it’s best to check with the skin clinic before you splash out on the treatment.
If you have discoloured patches of skin, age spots (also known as liver spots), dark marks from acne or other skin problems or hyper-pigmentation then skin lightening could help to restore an even colour to your face or body.
