Go with the flow. Qigong is a Chinese system of energy and healing that incorporates breathing techniques, gentle movement and meditation. The practice aims to build inner strength in the body and mind, leaving you feeling calm, healthy and in control – we like the sound of that!

How does it work?

Every Qigong session begins with a warm up. This consists of specially designed exercises that get the blood flowing and stimulate the flow of Qi (energy). These exercises are great for getting you ready for a class, but can also be performed by themselves as a short but effective workout – perfect for those days when you’re really busy.

During a Qigong class you will usually focus on your movements and breathing. Your teacher will show you how to do different exercises to improve posture and increase strength. As you become more advanced, you will be taught to coordinate your movements with your breath cycle, in addition to learning how to meditate.

It is advisable to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes for your Qigong session and to make sure that you haven’t eaten for an hour before – you don’t want your lunch to interfere with exercising!

Is it for me?

Practising Qigong has a calming effect that can be helpful to people suffering from anxiety, insomnia stress or depression. It can also keep your muscles and joints healthy and improve flexibility – so you feel nice and limber.

Qigong can be easily tailored to suit different needs. Speak to your instructor if you are pregnant, injured or ill – they should be able to help you.

Good to know

Sound like you know what you are talking about with perfect pronunciation - Qi is pronounced ‘chi’, and gong is pronounced ‘gung’.

Qigong is an ancient practice that has been around for hundreds of years.
