Punch and stretch. Here at Wahanda we love a good hybrid; yogilates, chess boxing, piloxing... come again? That’s right, the newest craze to hit those beautiful yet crazy head honchos over in Hollywood is a mix between Pilates and boxing. We love it.
This crazy new invention is aimed towards toning your muscles whilst simultaneously blasting fat by coalescing boxing and Pilates. It is meant to empower women both mentally and physically, presumably by teaching them the art of skilled fighting whilst retaining their femininity by balancing like a lady.
Take the power, speed and agility of boxing and mash it together with the beautiful sculpting and flexibility of Pilates – sound good? Well it certainly sounds odd, which guarantees it's going to be oodles of fun.
If you find yourself becoming a hardcore Piloxer, you can even incorporate weighted gloves into your routine, toning the arms and maximizing cardiovascular health.
Like all good things, Piloxing has a Swedish twist to it, and is the brainchild of Swedish dancer and celebrity trainer Viveca Jensen. As this suggests, the movements are very choreographed and fluid, and will help your coordination skills as well.
If you find Pilates just doesn’t cut it in your weight-shedding routine, but can’t handle the stresses of a full cardiovascular boxing work out, you have finally found your niche. The shifts between low and high intensity mean that you are able to catch your breath between boxing stints, and stretch out those muscles to avoid cramps and strains.
Pilates pioneer Joseph Pilates was also a boxer, and developed Pilates in order to minimize physical injury. It was only a matter of time before some sporting guru put two and two together and came up with this super sport!
