No Hands® Massage description

Look, no hands! A massage without hands may at first seem a bit like a pool without water or a sauna without heat, but founder of the technique, Gerry Pyves, believes a No Hands® massage can be highly beneficial. As with traditional forms of massage, the No Hands® experience aims to relax the mind and refresh the body. There is, however, a bit of a twist...

How does it work?

A No Hands® massage does pretty much what it says on the tin. Rather than using their hands to massage their clients, No Hands® practitioners press down with their forearms, using their bodyweight to provide a deeper massage. This unusual approach was devised when therapist Gerry Pyves developed a wrist injury and was no longer able to massage clients in a conventional manner. He subsequently found that many people actually preferred the No Hands® experience to traditional massage technique.

In addition to relaxing the body, the No Hands® massage is designed to:

  • Ease muscular tension
  • Improve circulation
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Help heal damaged muscles
  • Improve flexibility

The No Hands® massage is available in various forms, from a fully clothed chair massage to a head massage or full body massage. As with other forms of massage, the focus of No Hands® is on relaxation. Most therapists will play gentle music and will refrain from conversation during the massage, allowing their client to concentrate on breathing gently and releasing pent-up tension. The therapist will carry out the massage using the soft skin of their forearms to spread their body weight for a relaxing experience that soothes the body and irons out any knots.

After the massage it is a good idea to drink plenty of water, as this helps flush out any toxins. Many practitioners believe that for optimum wellbeing it’s best to have regular massages – and you won’t hear us complaining.

Is it for me?

No Hands® massage can be particularly beneficial for those who suffer from muscular problems and stress. However, massage is not suitable for everyone: before your No Hands® massage session it is important to mention any health conditions you may have to your practitioner.

Good to know

No Hands® massage has been termed the ‘Gentle Giant’ of massage, as it is achieves good results with none of the discomfort sometimes associated with other massage techniques.
