Palm reading for the eyes, iridology studies the colouration and fibre structure of your iris in order to determine and predict your body’s health. Just by peering into your peepers, iridologists believe they can reveal a multitude of information that could help to improve and maintain your health and wellbeing, proving that your eyes really are the windows to your soul.
Powerful genetic blueprints of our bodies, the iris is almost like a lie detector. Its thousands of nerve endings are connected to the brain, giving readouts on conditions in all organs and systems of the body. Iridologist’s then read the iris like a map, and as bodily tissues become inflamed or congested, the iris registers the processes, enabling them to determine the root cause of current disorders.
No-one likes their eyes to be prodded and poked, but you have nothing to fear here. Iridologists generally use equipment such as a flashlights, magnifying glasses, cameras or slit-lamp microscopes (also used by optometrists) so nothing invasive whatsoever. Searching for subtle signs of developing illnesses, such as symptoms of stress or a build-up of toxins, your practitioner may use an eye chart (which divides the iris into approximately 80-90 zones) to determine problems in corresponding internal organs.
The examination and consultation will typically last about an hour, and because this is considered to be an alternative medicine, unless the Iridologist is a licensed physician, they will not diagnose you with any specific diseases. They will however reveal your inherited and acquired tendencies towards health and disease, your current condition in general and the state of every organ. In addition, they might also inform you of which conditions you may have the potential to develop if you neglect your health, as well as reveal over or under activity in specific areas of the body. For example, an under-active pancreas might indicate a diabetic condition. As a result, you will then be given preventive health-care measures to follow.
Iris analysis is the perfect diagnostic method for people who may be anxious about undertaking invasive diagnostic tests. A completely safe, hygienic and non-invasive process, the examination can assess a person's health status and identify any inherited weaknesses.
Iridology is not supported by any published studies and is considered pseudoscience to most medical practitioners. However, it was taught at the Medical School of Salerno - famous since the 13th century - and even the Chaldean dynasty of Babylonian kings in 1000BC left records of iris markings, with the relevant anatomical reflexes painted onto stone slabs.
