Spa of the week

Spa(s) of the week: long weekend special

While making our final preparations for the long weekend, (sausages, sun cream, umbrellas – you know the drill) it dawned on us that this is the first one of the year. After a gruelling four months since Christmas, we think we deserve something a bit more relaxing than a Great British barbie or some dreaded DIY. That’s right, we’re off on a spa break this Easter, and to make sure we all find somewhere suitably relaxing, we’ve extended our spa of the week to include five of our favourites who are open for business this weekend… The Dartmouth Spa at Dartmouth Golf and Country ClubIf when you hear the words ‘country club’ you think bright whites and cucumber sandwiches, rest assured that this spa is more 'dressing gown' than 'dressing to impress'. Located amid an area of outstanding natural beauty in Dartmouth, Devon, The Dartmouth Spa (pictured above) offers everything a frazzled guest could hope for in terms of relaxation, including treatments from Elemis, an indoor pool, and Rasul experiences. If you fancy making a weekend of it, there are beaches and countryside a-plenty, plus a number of spa days and breaks including the One Night Pamper Spa Break which includes an overnight stay, two 30-minute treatments, a two-course evening meal, use of the spa facilities and breakfast the following morning. Greenwoods Hotel Spa and RetreatSituated in the peaceful village of Stock in Essex, Greenwoods Hotel Spa and Retreat is a rural refuge less than an hour from central London. Set among extensive landscaped gardens, this 17th Century manor house has had a few updates over the years, including the creation of an indulgent spa, home to a range of ‘purifying facilities’ (including monsoon showers and a 20-metre pool) and relaxing treatments from some of the industry’s best-loved names (including Elemis and La Sultane), plus alternative therapies like reiki healing and bamboo massage. Their Special Offer Overnight Spa Break for two sounds like the perfect way to while away a long weekend. Spa at Luton Hoo HotelSurrounded by 1,000 acres of landscaped gardens, it’s hard to believe that Luton Hoo is just a ten-minute drive from Luton airport. Over the years this five-star hotel and spa has played host to famous guests including Queen Mary, Winston Churchill, and numerous film crews, having featured in blockbusters like Four Weddings and a Funeral, The World Is Not Enough and War Horse. Previously the property’s stables, the indulgent spa is now home to six luxury treatment rooms, an indoor swimming pool, vitality pool and heat therapy suite. Other facilities include a fully restored Victorian grass tennis court (which revolves to follow the day’s sun), an 18 hole golf course, and stunning views which can be enjoyed from the comfort of the spa’s heated pool – all egg-cellent for a lazy Easter weekend. Check out the Overnight Break with Bed and Breakfast to make the most of the fab facilities. K Spa at K WestA short walk from Shepherd’s Bush station, sits one of the capital’s most stylish hotel spas. Winner of “Best Luxury Hotel Spa, UK” at the 2011 World Luxury Spa Awards, it is K Spa’s aim to provide guests with an attainable city alternative to the dream spa destinations in locations like Bali, Thailand and California. With a skilled team, an exotic treatment menu and luxury facilities (including London’s first Snow Paradise and a Sun Meadow room offering gentle light therapy to relieve symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder), a trip to K Spa will make you feel like you're a thousand miles away – without the jet lag. The One Night Spa, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Break has everything you need to relax the mind and rejuvenate the body before it’s back to work on Tuesday. Vital Spa & Health Club at Macdonald Inchyra HotelLocated in the town of Falkirk, Vital Spa & Health Club at Macdonald Inchyra Hotel is an idyllic retreat in the heart of Scotland. Surrounded by gorgeous manicured grounds, this traditional (and charming) manor house now boasts one of the finest spas in Scotland, with a relaxation suite, eight treatment rooms, a thermal suite (complete with ice fountain and rock sauna) and 20m swimming pool. On the treatment menu, guests will find a variety of indulgent services using products from top spa names like Elemis and Carita. If you’re looking for a relaxing break this weekend, check out their One Night Spa Break which includes an overnight stay, 30-minute treatment, full use of the spa facilities and a full Scottish breakfast the following morning. So, how do you like your eggs in the morning? Don’t say chocolate…false

Spa of the week: The Halcyon Spa at Bishopstrow Hotel

We don’t know where it came from, but April has arrived. It seems like only yesterday we were struggling to burn off those extra Christmas pounds… oh wait, that was yesterday. Still, unsuccessful exercise regimes aside, this year seems to be galloping away at quite a pace, and with the arrival of a few daffodils, a bit of blossom and, last but not least, the sun (fingers crossed), it seems spring is well and truly here. We don’t know about you, but we’re in the mood for a spring break. Forget your bikinis and novelty sunglasses, we’re thinking Cotswolds not Cabo, and we’ve found a place in the heart of the English countryside that is as beautiful as it is relaxing. Welcome to The Halcyon Spa at Bishopstrow Hotel, our Spa of the week…

The spa

Situated within 27 acres of gorgeous grounds beside the banks of the River Wylye in Wiltshire, Bishopstrow Hotel is 35 minutes from the historical town of Bath. Built in 1817, the hotel retains all of its unique period features, with a few state-of-the-art updates, including the elegant Halcyon Spa. Thanks to celebrities like Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, the glorious Cotswolds has become one of the UK’s most desirable holiday locations, and looking at the rural setting of this historic and quintessentially English hotel, it’s easy to see why. For a truly A-list weekend away, a trip to this beautiful ‘boutique spa’ is a must.
