What makes laser hair removal different to IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses less power than laser hair removal and a diffused wavelength can be less effective.
Our laser systems treat the broadest spectrum of skin tones from white Caucasian to Afro Caribbean, as well as tanned skin. Now it is possible to enjoy the sun and still keep up to date with your laser treatment resulting in a more effective outcome.
Laser hair removal can be used anywhere on the body. Many celebrities choose laser hair removal as it is considered the safest and most effective way to remove unwanted hair.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal has a red laser beam that is adjusted to the correct wave length to penetrate through the shaft of the hair to the base of the hair follicle, bringing the hair growth to a halt. The red light is attracted to the dark pigment in the hair therefore laser hair removal is not successful on white, red or grey hair but extremely effective on dark hair.
It is important to have a full skin assessment before a laser hair removal treatment is carried out. At Dermatherapy we understand how delicate and fragile our skin is so we assess the skin before every treatment to check your suitability. Sun exposure should be limited to no less than two weeks before or after a treatment. A factor 30 sunscreen should always be applied to the treated area even during the winter. Laser hair removal can make delicate skin sensitive if not treated correctly.
