Osteopathic treatment comprises a range of techniques including soft tissue massage, joint articulation, muscle stretching and joint mobilisation. These techniques are adapted to suit your age, fitness, symptoms and diagnosis. At your first consultation you will already have received a medical and postural assessment followed by evaluation of joint movement, muscle tone and areas of discomfort. You may need 2 or 3 treatments depending on your condition.
Many people associate osteopaths with bad backs, whereas in fact, osteopaths treat a wide range of physical problems. Osteopaths have a holistic approach and believe that your whole body will only work well if it is in good structural balance. Hence Osteopathic treatment will target the areas causing the imbalance as well as any areas that are causing pain.
Osteopaths undertake a 4 or 5 year degree training programme, similar to medical training but with an emphasis on the musculoskeletal system. They use a highly developed sense of touch to evaluate and treat their patients.
