Pilates is a body conditioning routine that may help build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing and developing a strong core or centre while improving coordination and balance. Pilates’ system allows for different exercises to be modified in a range of difficulty from basic to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
The Pilates Reformer is the most well known piece of Pilates equipment. It is a bed like frame with a moveable carriage where a person sits or reclines and does his or her stretching. It is an excellent way of exercising without hurting the joints while strengthening muscles.
Staying true to the classic techniques of isolating, fatiguing and stretching, Niko Physique pushes dynamic pilates further. It’s intense, fun, always cheeky and encourages class members to push the trainer harder reversing the usual class regime.
Niko Algieri comes from a family of fitness professionals. His Father was Mr. Wales in 1992, his Mother currently teaches aerobics 5 times a week and his step-father was 4 times World Kickboxing Champion.
Niko himself achieved great things throughout his sporting career. He achieved 1st Dan black belt in Kickboxing at the age of 14 and now uses these training ideals with his clients today. In his teens he was Welsh Champion at Pentathlon, hurdles and high jump holding several records. At the same time he played at national level in football gaining trials for clubs such as Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff and Portsmouth. Sustaining two serious injuries at ages 16 and 18 ended Niko’s hopes of a professional football career but it set him on the path to becoming a personal trainer.
He continued to play semi-professional football in the Welsh Premier League for Haverfordwest County FC whilst developing his own physique through kickboxing and gym based training.
In March 2009 he entered the Men’s Health cover model competition making it down to the final 12 for the professional photo shoot. In August 2011 Niko was asked to become the official Personal Trainer for Cosmopolitan Magazine featuring monthly in print and online to give essential tips and advice to their readers.
4 years ago Niko discovered reformer pilates. After learning the basics he developed his own fast paced, energetic and fun style rapidly becoming one of the most sought after class teachers in London. He is now bringing his ground breaking style to West London in the hope of creating more Niko Physiques.
