Acupuncture is used as a method for treating pain. The needles stimulate nerve endings and the brain to release endorphins - pain relieving chemicals. the therapist will feel for tender 'trigger' points in the tissues under your skin. There are approximately 500 such points which, if stimulated with needles, may affect how certain organs work.
The number of needles inserted depends on the condition and could be up to 12 at a time. The sensation when the needle goes in can be described as a tingling or dull ache. The length of time that a needle is inserted for depends on the condition being treated; between 10-30 minutes.
