Xander and Xaviar

I visited Xander and Xaviar to use a 2hr pamper voucher bought online. As per other reviews, the 2hr pamper voucher was complete false advertising because at best what you get is a facial, and nail polish. On arrival the salon looked good and staff were friendly. I had the one therapist who undertook my facial which was good, my skin did look noticeably better when she had finished. But that is all that was good. The massage was barely a massage, lots of rubbing of the tops of my arms but not a massage. My neck and shoulders barely got touched.

I was more hopeful that the manicure and pedicure would be better, I was wrong. I had been warned that it was a mini mani and pedi, but my problems began when I asked if they could remove my shellac nail polish. The therapist really struggled with this form the beginning, especially with the foils. The foils used looking more like kitchen foil which is much stiffer. While my toes soaked (not in water but in acetone, the therapist started on my nails and I have never known anything like it. The therapist attempted to file my nails by forcefully going back and forth with the nail file. I have had enough manicures to know that you should only ever go in one direction with nails. No one had clearly told her. I had to get her to stop and while she attended to my toes, I went over my finger nails myself. Fortunately for me most of the shellac came off without much fuss, but for the ones that remained firm, my poor toe nails were scrapped with the cuticle remover tool and then filed to within an inch of their life. I did attempt to stop the therapist, but they looked so bad due to the way they had been scrapped, I had to let her finish.

I was also told that only clear nail polish was free and I would have to pay extra if I wanted a colour. I choose the free option and got just one coat on my fingers and toes. I did get my eyebrows threaded and this was done by a different lady. While more expensive then you get in other places in South London (£4, other places charge £2), a nice job was done.

I would only recommend Xander and Xavier for a facial and maybe eyebrows. Go elsewhere for any sort of nail treatment.
