The spa experience was absolutely lovely and the staff we're friendly. Best back massage I've ever had. However the actual hotel left a lot to be desired.
The evening meal was terrible. They were obviously short staffed and the whole restaurant was left waiting at least half an hour between courses. Plates were left on tables for a long period of time and the food for the price wasn't very good. I had the shin of beef and it was just a plate of fat. The mash was not seasoned with horseradish as promised and the Stilton tart was awful.
The waiter working did give us free desert and was very apologetic but for an expensive restaurant the food and service was unacceptable. The restaurant lacks atmosphere.
The bed in the room was uncomfortable and moved across the room as I moved in bed.
After a lovely relaxing time in the spa where the deal was so reasonable we both ended up tense and stressed again by the end of the evening meal.
Such a shame as the spa had nothing to do with the actual service in the hotel.
