Zen @ Harley Street

Visited Feb 2012

Everything about this place is a unsatisfactory. I bought a Groupon voucher which said that booking had to be made online, fair enough I thought, and I completed the online form that said that someone would confirm the booking within 5 days. I didn't get a response and tried again. Again, nothing. Finally I called - at first the woman who answered wasn't sure what the name of the place was and had to check with someone else. I was passed to that person and I explained that my online booking didn't seem to have gone through - she confirmed that it wasn't working and just scheduled me over the phone. She said that the Harley Street branch was booked out but offered a convenient time at their Highbury and Islington branch, which I accepted. I was told I would receive a confirmation text with the address. I didn't receive anything for a few days so I called again. This time I did get a text with an address on Holloway Road.

I duly arrived at the address provided (239 Holloway Road) around 5mins before my appointment time, only to find a closed, signless shopfront. I called the mobile number that had sent the confirmation and was told to wait there - at that point I had half a mind to just head home. The therapist arrived with a friend and two children in tow -I thought that this had to be a scam and didn't have much confidence in the legitimacy of the clinic but felt too polite to just walk away. I followed her to the real address of the clinic, which seems quite makeshift and is actually some spare rooms at the back of travel agency. The therapist had not come from the clinic, and was dressed as if she had just had lunch with her friend, and spent 10-15 mins getting the massage room ready while I waited. The massage itself was passable but I couldn't feel very relaxed with the thin walls and the CD player that kept skipping. When I left, no one asked me how I was and I could have easily walked out with paying as they didn't seem very organised, I actually stopped to volunteer the voucher which was accepted aggressively.

I should emphasise that this was at the Holloway Road branch but as this "clinic" is run by the same people, I would highly recommend staying away.
