Beauty Rooms at The Oxford Hotel, The Hotel Collection

This was an awful experience and I felt overcharged. A hotel has felt that just because it has a grimy and small swimming pool it can call itself a spa - but this is not so. How can you relax by the pool side (water did not at all seem clean!!) when all you have is two wooden garden chairs which are already occupied. I had to beg for an armchair to be brought in so I could sit somewhere. Staff at reception was disorganised. People whose treatments had to be cancelled were notified half an hour before their arrival (from Hemel Hempstead), my own treatments had been scheduled for 3:00 pm. On Sunday I received an e-mail confirming my treatments would start at 10:00 am. So I nearly killed myself shooting down the motorway only to find out that the treatments were at 3:00 pm. This left me hanging around for several hours. The steam room was disgusting as it smelled of broccoli and the sauna was tiny. It was freezing cold and when we asked for the heating to be turned up the staff said the heating was "going up and down". In the ladies' changing room the toilets bowls featured brown skidmarks and no-one was there all day long to clean the place. Towels left behind by departing guests were left in the corner in a damp pile - it wasn't pleasant! There was a sheet of paper in the ladies' changing room basically for the staff to sign off after every check. This was left blank all day. At 5:30 a member of staff came to the door of the changing room (but no further, clearly just to check that the changing room was still there), signed off the entire sheet with her initials (LH) and departed again. I had booked an additional facial and Alex had confirmed it would cost £25.00 only for me to be told then that it was £30.00.I paid £95 all in all and wish I hadn't. It was a dirty and cold experience and I would never ever come again. The only saving grace was the beautician who tried very hard but frankly there was so much wrong that she on her own was fighting a losing battle.
