I should have sniffed that something was going to go wrong when I called to make an appointment and they could not identify the reference number on my Nectar Deals Voucher. The offer was £16 instead of £65 and for that you get facial mapping, analysis of your skin and a choice of deep cleansing, anti ageing or acne facial.
I arrived shortly before my 10am appointment. After showing the receptionist my voucher and giving my name which she checked in the diary, she asked me if I was having my nails done. I said no and explained exactly what I was having done, even showing her the voucher. Ten minutes later I was called to a freezing cold room. This time I gave the voucher to the lady, she did not even look at it. She commented on the temperature and said that she would cover me, which she did.
For the rest of the hour long facial – NOT A WORD WAS SPOKEN AT ALL. Halfway through, I was getting concerned that there was nothing resembling facial mapping in the treatment and I was not advised of the type of skin I had; something I was anxious to know. I thought I would leave it to her as she was the professional. There was no conversation explaining what stage of the facial she was at or the products she was using. There was no conversation at all except for the few times a member of staff entered the room to speak to her or obtain advice.
At the end, I asked her where was the facial mapping and that what I received was a facial which I did not need to trek halfway across London for. She said that the facial mapping was just to let you know what type of skin I had. I said yes, but where was it because that is what I paid for. She then looked uncomfortable and embarrassed, and told me that her manager was not available. I held up my hands in disbelief. The service at the salon was unremarkable. I noticed whilst I was waiting that the regular clients having their hair done were offered tea, I wasn’t. If you have an offer or a voucher, don’t be a fool like me. Ask upfront beforehand and make it clear exactly what you will be getting. I have regular facials, I knew what to expect, I should have spoken up and demanded a full refund before she went any further. I received nothing resembling what I had paid for. Absolute rip off.
