Cleve Spa & Hotel

This was our first Spa experience, and we are very pleased. We used our Tesco Clubcard Vouchers via Wahanda for one of their special 2-night break deals.
The hotel is Charismatic, and has been sympathetically extended to accommodate extra bedrooms, conference rooms the Spa & Health & fitness suite.
The staff were incredibly welcoming, polite, genuinely happy and keen to make your stay as special as possible - within moments, they had remembered your name, your chosen treatment & it's time, which suite you are staying in, how many nights stay etc. etc.
The Spa has lovely views over the Devon Countryside, and the overall ambiance is quiet and reserved.
The quality & choice of meals are excellent, Breakfast has every option catered for, the 'light lunch' was a very filling Ploughmans salad, and the evening meals appear to be hand cooked individually to order, yet very little wait.
Water, orange & apple juice with assorted hot drinks are freely available all day.
The gym is very well fitted out and maintained, as is the jacuzzi, sauna & steam room and swimming pool, which is only monitored via remote CCTV.
Extensive redecoration & re carpeting has already been carried out, however, the standard of some of this is on the low side - tiles surrounding the swimming pool are anything but level, and although very clean, detracts somewhat to the overall impression, (as do the scaled-up shower heads from our room, the changing rooms, outside the steam room), which although are quickly cleared, give a sense of a little more maintenance being required.
We stayed in one of the larger 'Spa' bedrooms, with newer en-suite facilities - a larger room than standard, with elevated views over the Devon Countryside, but I could clearly hear the occupants in the room next door through the 'Not-so-well' blocked off doorway.
Having stayed at other hotels belonging to a 'chain' it was refreshingly clear that this was an independently owned & operated hotel which was reflected in the excellent value for money, and cheerful, unhurried manner of all staff.
I have no reservation in planning a return.
