COPD is obviously a chronic disease and I'd say your husband needs to work to reduce inflammation and mucus production wherever possible to relieve his symptoms. The main natural and healthy way to do this are to eat very healthily and a nutritionalist (I am not one) will devise a programme especially for him. They are likely to say avoid all processed foods, red meat and dairy (mucus forming) and alcohol and eat a varied diet of wholesome, organic or unsprayed foodstuffs. They may suggest specific supplements depending on an analysis of his health, some of which may be designed to reduce inflammation.
Your husband should not be smoking and should avoid any secondary smoking, polluted environments, allergens etc which may affect his breathing.
As another post mentioned gentle exercise may also help.
Homeopathy can be used to alleviate but because it is a holistic therapy treating the whole person rather than a disease label or set of physical symptoms only, I cannot recommend any remedies without consulting with him. It would be a good therapy as it is safe, natural, non addictive and doesn't cause any harmful side effects and it can be used alongside any conventional treatment he receives.
Should he decide to try any natural therapies, I'd strongly recommend he informs his usual medical care givers first so they are aware of the full range of care he is being given. Any good complementary therapist will work with other care givers (with his consent, of course) for the benefit of the patient.

evsie,
There are few things to try in managing the COPD. COPD is known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is caused by smoking or through hereditary.
For smokers, the first step toward rehabilitation is to stop smoking. COPD is a condition of reduced lung function indicated by obstruction of airflow out of the lungs leading to poor air exchange causing shortness of breadth in sufferer.
Another option is taking bronchodilators to open the airways and reduce inflammation .
Also using oxygen supplementation therapy will enhance lung tissue function and recovery.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is also vital in managing this ailment which teaches better breathing techniques and use of respiratory aids and there is the surgery option(Lung volume reduction surgery).
i hope this information will be of help to you. Cheers!

I agree with reducing inflammation grains in the diet cause inflammation in the cells so by cutting these out and adding gelatin which is anti-flammatory may help allot. I have a blog on how to make your own homemade gelatin.

Your husband needs to eat a nutritious high calorie diet. Interestingly people with COPD have a calorie requirement as they use more energy just breathing! This is one reason why COPD sufferers may lose weight. However this does not mean he can fill up on unhealthy foods such as cakes, biscuits, chips and crisps. The unhealthy fats and sugars in these foods could exacerbate his condition. Foods such as oily fish, nuts avocado provide good fats that help control inflammation. Foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits will provide good levels of anti-oxidants, vitamin C etc. that can help prevent infections. Wholegrains are more sustaining than refined white carbohydrates e.g. white pasta, rice and bread. They will also provide more B vitamins and magnesium , essential for energy production. In addition to this your husband may benefit from a good multivitamin mineral supplement. However it is advisable to check any supplements against his medication for any possible contraindications.
For more specific advice, and support with building a tailor made diet and lifestyle plan for your husband it would be advisable to seek advice from a well qualified nutritional therapist

There is so much your husband can do to help him with respiratory problems nutrition and lifestyle changes should be top of the list for the healing effect on respiratory problems.
Also consider environmental irritants
House dust, mould, feather duvets, pets, woollen clothing, perfumes household sprays.
Homeopath
Seeing a Homeopath for a proper consultation would be my best advice. That way a proper treatment plan can be devised.

Hi, I would suggest The Oxygen Therapy Program. An oral oxygen therapy program will kill the virus that caused the inflammation that caused the COPD initially.

My husband was diagnosed several years ago with emphysema. He was able to quit smoking and we stayed on top of any illness. He has been hospitalized with pneumonia every year. His breathing has been getting worse but oxygen levels stay in the 97 to 98 range except when he's in hospital. For a year now he has been passing out. It is only for 1 to 3 minutes and was only when he would start coughing. The doctor changed his medications around but he passes out when breathing a bit hard. Also his feet swell up and are numb all the time. He then started using a cane. i searched for alternative treatment before i was introduced to Health herbal clinic by a friend here in the United states she told me they have successful herbal treatment to Emphysema and other lungs diseases. I spoke to few people who used the treatment here in USA and they all gave a positive response, so i immediately purchased the Emphysema herbal formula for my husband and he commenced usage, its totally unexplainable how all the symptoms totally dissapeared, his cough was gone and he no longer experience shortness of breath(dyspnea), contact this herbal clinic via their email healthherbalclinic@gmail.com Or website http://www.healthherbalclinic.weebly.com. This is a complicated condition that will vary a lot in severity. Naturopathy and other complementary treatments should not focuss on medical conditions instead they will be looking at the general state of health and aim to support the functions involved. Here the imune system is reacting and producing a lot of inflammation and the lungs and cardio vascular system are suffering as a result.
A hypo allergic, low Glycemic Load diet heps control inflammation. There are a number of herbs and spices which are know for their anti-inflammatory properties such as turmeric and vitamin such as omega 3 (fish) oil and vitamin D3.
Without more back-ground information and an in depth nutritional consultation it is impossible to give more specific information. Naturopathic Nutrition is available from Anne-Lise Miller at Bespoke Colonics

If he smokes stop.... also vital to avoid other people's smoke.
Exercising as much as he is able to helps keep the lungs (and heart) strong and to build self-confidence thus helping exercise capacity. Physiotherapy helps to clear mucus from the lungs and some exercises he can do every day to help himself.
Eating a healthy diet and drinking enough liquid is essential. i am available for a chat anytime..
