The spa was in the basement and it was more like facilities for the hotel guest rather than a spa.

My experience was supposed to be a birthday treat to celebrate my 40th birthday. When I phoned up to confirm they advised me that there would only be one therapist available due to in-house training and that swimming lessons would be on on the Tuesday. We spent our relaxing spa time listening to crying babies learning to swim and teachers singing to them. The treatments themselves didn't relax me as one of the therapist began arguing with me because I wanted my full treatment time and she said we were late so this would cut into the treatment time. I was so tense because of this. When she performed the manicure which was complimentary as there was problems with the lack of staff to treat my Mum and me for my birthday which I only got because my Mum gave up one of her treatments as they were arguing with me about time and how the lateness meant I wouldn't get it. The Manicure itself was not complete because I had clear nail polish on which she said she removed on both hands but afterwards I noticed she only did one hand and the other was not complete. Also the manicure was held on one of there beds lying on the bed which was strange as every manicure I have had before the person sits down and puts her hands out. This was a bad experience and spoiled my birthday if you are having a special occasion stay away from the Holyrood Hotel it is the worst experience I have ever had and I should have listened to the reviews on Wahanda before going as they are all true.

As this was a special treat for my friend I was very disappointed when I was told that there were no kitchen at the hotel as it was being replaced. When I booked this I booked it with the Bento Box lunch but only got soup and sandwiches. We got a free glass od bubbly which was a gesture of goodwill. If I had known about this it would have given me the choice of booking elsewhere. The treatments were lovely though.

Enjoyed a lovely day at the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our beauty therapist, Katie, was excellent and the treatments we had were so relaxing. We enjoyed hanging out in the relaxation room, pool and steam room. The only slight downside was that our visit coincided with a day of baby swimming classes. The changing rooms were packed with mothers and babies, which made for a lot of hanging around waiting for them to finish up before we could get to our lockers etc. Otherwise, a very relaxing and enjoyable day!

On arrival we where warmly greeted and shown around. After changing we headed to the pool, first stopping to have a shower ( this area really needs a make over it's very dated and looks a little grubby. We found the pool quite cool if not cold. About 1/2 hr later the pool area filled up with babies attending swimming lessons, Not really conducive to total relaxation and tranquility. However we just took our selfs to the steam room then the relaxation room. The staff are lovely and nothing was too much trouble. After getting changed which was not the easiest in such a small area with around 10 mothers and baby's changing too. We went up to the hotel area for afternoon tea this was really lovely and worth the money and more.

Fantastic day at the spa. Beautiful lunch light enough to not make you feel weighed down but enough to feel satisfied, and great treatments, left us both feeling relaxed and destressed.

The spa facilities were modern and very clean. The spa relaxation room was like a womb we did not want to leave, there was free juice and tea and coffee available . The fruit was a little stale.
The receptionist ordered latte and a hot chocolate from the bar in the main hotel, it arrived promptly and was still hot. The bath robes, flip flops and towels were good quality. The pool and sauna and steam exemplary. I think the only disappointment was that some of the changing room facilities were a little scruffy and in need of an up grade. There were work men in the changing rooms in the afternoon.
It was a great experience and great value and I would recommend it to family and friends at full price. I didn't have any mobile phone reception in the spa area with EE .
