Vineyard Hotel and Spa

We love wine. We eat, sleep and drink it. That's why we want it to be enjoyed by everyone. Since opening over a decade ago, we’ve been passionate about wine here at The Vineyard. Last year, we decided it was time to share our enthusiasum, knowledge and expertise of wine and food pairing with all our guests and really get the message out there. With a successful winery in California, an award winning wine list, a friendly, knowledgeable sommelier team, headed up by UK Sommelier of the Year 2011, Yohann Jousselin MS, over 30,000 bottles in our wine cellar and an extensive wine events programme, we realised we had lots to shout about!

Like many great wines, we’re improving with age. Our public space including the reception, bar and casual dining area has been transformed, so now as guests walk through our doors, they will instantly see why we are called The Vineyard. A dramatic new painting depicting the infamous Judgement of Paris wine tasting in 1976, an impressive glass-floored wine vault containing over 880 bottles giving guests the opportunity to see down to our cellar, and a brand new menu concept are just some of the exciting changes we’ve made.

The Judgement of Paris painting acts as a perfect centre piece to the new look and feel of the public spaces within the hotel. The painting sits within the Taste room, a new casual dining space with a stunning new bar giving guests the option to dine and drink in a less formal dining area. As you walk through the doors, you’re not only met with the view of the painting and the vault, but with the bright, airy and elegant lounge area, that’s perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and afternoon tea with friends, family or colleagues.

It’s not just the new space that’s had a radical facelift, our menu has also been also been re-designed to reflect the way many of us now enjoy dining out – smaller plates and more variety in a more relaxed atmosphere. Executive Chef, Daniel Galmiche has created a fascinating and varied menu packed with flavour and exciting food combinations. Now with 18 new sweet and savoury dishes, the menu is proving to be even more popular than we first thought! It also works incredibly well with our Short Wine List featuring 100 wines to try by the glass. We encourage guests to use our friendly and approachable wine coaches to select the perfect wine to match with each delicious dish.

To complement the more relaxed dining approach, our attitude towards service has also changed. All staff at The Vineyard from sommeliers and waitresses through to housekeeping and reception have been trained to deliver a more casual and personable approach to service that’s still sleek and professional. We’ve also developed a wine training course appropriately called ‘Vintelligence’, which all staff have attended so that we can be confident that whilst the sommeliers or ‘wine coaches’ as we call them, are the experts in their field, other members of staff also have great wine knowledge.

Inspired by the sun-soaked vineyards of California, The Vineyard – located in the heart of rural Berkshire – is a true haven for food and wine lovers, art enthusiasts or those just looking for a relaxing weekend getaway. The stunning premises feature an award-winning wine list, top class menu, spa facility and an extensive wine events programme.

Having looked forward to our spa break in a 5 star hotel, our experience of this hotel was so disappointing. The main issue was that the staff were junior, untrained, did not understand what 5* service means, and in several cases didn't speak any English. Every contact with the staff was painful, we were brought the wrong food, the wrong drinks, everything was slow. It took 3 hours to finish our dinner as we were waiting between every course. The spa facilities were a little tired but passable. Not what I would class as 5*, particularly disappointing for a Relais & Chateau hotel.

Lovely room and communal areas. Very friendly and helpful staff. Dinner was good. Treatments were great but was a bit disappointed with the spa itself. Was hoping for a bit more and it was a shame that there were no outdoor facilities (pool/hot tub) as obviously being summer, it was very warm inside. Quite pricey so expected it to be perfect!

A small spa (only 4 treatment rooms) which in my opinion is a positive. The pool area was very relaxing with loads of magazines.

This is probably the only 5 star hotel that I have been to which does not try its best to make you pay more but actually make it their duty to help you enjoy more. The spa facilities were lovely and relaxing under a window where it felt like we were outdoors flowing in the water. The dinner was very good, but the wine was superb. I will defo be coming back here again, probably during the winter.

This cosy hotel is a straightforward short drive from London but far enough to feel like you've got out of town. The spa facilities aren't huge but they weren't at all busy when we went so it didn't feel crowded. Treatments were good but the highlight for me was the food and wine.
