Alexander House Hotel & Utopia Spa at Alexander House Hotel part of Alexander Hotels

Alexander House and Utopia Spa is set in 120 acres of private gardens and parkland. You arrive at Utopia Spa through a Gothic corridor with marble, granite and the sound of trickling water. The atmosphere is relaxed and spacious but welcoming and friendly. There are areas to be active and areas to be quiet and enjoy the tranquility.

The subterranean setting of the pools with their stone columns and domed ceilings are truly what a spa is all about - water and relaxation. Water treatments abound in the three pools with their unique features all waiting to be discovered or pamper yourself and relax in our changing suites, each with its own steam room, sauna and monsoon showers.

Treatments are extensive and many unique to Utopia. Two persons treatment suites are available as well as a dedicated pedicure, manicure and hairdressing studio.

Relaxation is at the heart of your spa experience, our relaxation room open onto the veranda and grand ballustrated staircase down to the tranquil Spa Garden. Here our hot spa pool bubbles away and loungers invite you to linger - this is true relaxation.

Unique Spa Bedrooms and Suites are situated above Utopia with direct access for guests on one of our Spa Escapes. Our exciting brasserie "Reflections" served delicious food, overlooking "Flames Courtyard", our open air terrace with its log fire pit - another great place to relax.

This place has now become our haven of peace, calm and beauty. We have never had a bad experience. The facilities are great, they have even got new bikes for hire which we used for the first time, They have even introduced a beautiful afternoon tea as part of the spa day menu. Absolute heaven! As far as the staff is concerned, I have never encountered such professionalism coupled with friendliness and warmth. I cannot praise this place enough!

My parents-in-law treat me every Christmas to the special deal of two people plus lunch and full use of the spa. It is an absolutely divine day.

I had the Mediterranean Siesta, another name for Indian Head Massage and it was simply divine. The therapist is professional and caring, the ambience so relaxing you have to make an effort not to fall asleep - all senses are taken care of and the sensuousness of this experience is very highly recommended.

Fantastic treatments, great hotel & setting. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food and drink great. Only slight drawback to the sauna and steam room is that they are in the chnaging rooms so men and women are separate which meant it was only the pool that my husband and I could enjoy together. Also I had to send a steak back as not cooked rare (was med-well done) and chef said he would do it blue?! Not ideal but the replacement steak was great (it was rare, not blue). Overall great place and I would recommend and return myself.

Day was wonderful! The pool was amazing and the gym was very well equipped and the food was just fantastic - grateful for them catering for dietary requirements with ease :) would have preferred to chose a time for us to have lunch so we could arrange our day around that, but that's maybe a personal opinion. There were also classes included in the package but they didnt have any on for the day that we went - maybe they could have a a good selection for each day.

A perfect day at a wonderful venue. Just the sort of relaxing day we were looking for. Would like to have had side orders and a drink included in the lunch menu (as lunch was included in the day) and possibly a desert too - it was the bare minimum included in the price.

I went for a spa day with a friend for pre-30th birthday celebration. I could not rate Alexander House and Utopia Spa enough. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. They gave us a informative tour as we had not visited the spa before and explained our timetable for the day. We were offered complimentary drinks and a muffin while choosing what we would like to eat for lunch. With such mouth-watering options on the menu that took a while!

The spa pools and pool area was clean, tidy and had plenty of loungers. The pools are absolutely fantastic. Don't worry if you don't want any extra spa treatments. We opted not to have any and spent a very enjoyable day hopping from one pool to another The changing area was extremely spacious and well maintained.

We left feeling very relaxed, well pampered and big fans of Alexander House. We will definitely be returning.

Beautiful setting....very welcoming with knowledgable staff. Gym instructor seems a little out of his depth with the number of people in his class....it was only 7!
The lunch was very nice. my partner made an error whilst ordering something she wouldn't have liked and they changed it without any quibble.

The disappointing thing for us was the lack of time together in the spa facilities. Which seems ridiculous, but because of the separate gender facilities we spent a large amount of time alone.

We thought we'd see what the treatments were like when we where there. They along with anything else you wanted or needed to purchase were very expensive.

Overall, enjoyed our day....but wouldn't return there

We found Alexander House very quickly after searching in the Gatwick area for a one night get away before the other half took a trip away for the summer. First impressions were great, clean website, pictures showcased everything we were looking for, and even better when we searched the room rate for the dates we needed. Unfortunately our short experience with Alexander House went downhill from there.

Browsing the rates on Friday we came across what seemed to be an offer too good to be true, the "Summer Affair ** Special Promotion ** Dinner, Bed & Breakfast" had it all. The basic 'Classic Double' room returned an excellent price, £170 for the one night, wow. We needed to make some other arrangements beforehand, then went to book it the next week.

When trying to book we encountered the first hurdle - the website wanted a £100 per person deposit. Hang on, a deposit more than the night itself, upfront, surely not? We called them, to be told (in the first instance at least) that the additional £30 would simply 'go towards dinner' - okay, no drama, we planned to eat there anyway so went away to book online and pay the £200.

Second hurdle, after not being able to proceed with the booking online (the website wasn't on the same page as the person on the phone and wouldn't take more than the room upfront). We called again to just book over the phone, to be then told that their had been a technical error overnight and the rate was a mistake. Wait, overnight? We found the hotel and rate on Friday, it's now Wednesday the following week. First rule guys, if you don't know - say you don't know. Oh, and the real rate was only £190 more than the one we saw! Unsurprisingly we didn't snap her hand off for the 'new' rate.

After being told they simply wouldn't honour the advertised price we asked for the manager, who unfortunately was in an urgent meeting - so we waited for a call back. The rate was removed from their website within the hour.

The phone call with the manager, after being told all that you've just read, was an offer of 20% discount on the new rate (more than double what was advertised). Not good enough, a poor show all round. With the disarray we encountered I dread to think what the 'luxury' experience would have amounted to had we'd parted with the £360. If you advertise a price, mistake or human error, bite the bullet and honour it - they do in retail and should've in this instance, a real shame all round. Needless to say, we didn't and won't be staying at Alexander House anytime soon.
