Enjoyable afternoon -appreciated that we got discount off parking and food/drink in hotel after spa experience. Spa nice, treatments good more seats around the pool would be appreciated but all in all good value for money

I had an amazing day , facilities where lovely,
I had an elemis facial and the product where wonderful, my skin feels amazing still.
Therapists where really friendly and went out there way to make it a special say for me and my friend.

As I seem to constantly carry a lot of tension in my shoulders, I was intrigued by the Ocean Rooms' offer of a Russian Massage, "suited to those who feel they have severe tension build of knots and severe muscle of [sic] fatigue. 30 minutes dedicated to your aches, pains and strains. Not for the faint hearted".

Let's emphasise that last bit, shall we? "Not for the faint hearted". They're warning you about this massage before you've even booked it; this isn't the sort of massage where you're going to fall asleep half way through. It's designed to be a massage that gets results, rather than one to make you relax immediately.

The spa is in one of the basement levels of the Newcastle Hilton; you get free use of the facilities with most treatments, although they are basic - the normal sort of hotel offering: small pool, whirlpool, steam room and sauna.

I was met by the poolside by my therapist, who escorted me into a room. A previous reviewer commented on one of the rooms being next to the gym, and sound bleeding through from there. The room I was taken to was next to the pool, so I had splashing noises, and the sound of children throughout my massage. To top this off, the swimsuit dryer from one of the changing rooms appeared to be on the other side of the wall.

The massage... well, what can I say? When they said it wasn't for the faint hearted, they weren't lying! It starts fairly innocuously, with the normal gentle rubbing one might expect. Within the first couple of minutes though, the therapist was sticking her elbow into my back. And it was being dug in quite firmly, too. All it took was a little request to go easy on my lower back, and all was well.

She soon lost interest in my lower back, and spent most of the rest of the massage concentrating on my shoulder blades; not that I'm complaining, there's enough tension in my shoulders to keep a team of therapists going for a week. Again, she was there with her elbow, digging it deeply into my muscles. I could feel each knot in the muscle as she went over it again and again. The sensation varied between not at all relaxing and really quite painful. Instinct told me to tense up against this torture, but I had to force myself to relax. To my horror, I heard myself ask her to be a bit firmer.

After half an hour, it came to an end. Easily the least relaxing massage I've ever had, but I hadn't really expected relaxation after reading the description. I left, feeling rather sore - but something I noticed through the soreness was that my shoulders were, for the first time in many months, feeling somewhat loose.

The soreness persisted the next day, but still I continued feeling nice and loose. It lasted maybe 24-36 hours before the soreness went, but I'm pleased to say that, for now at least, the tension has gone.

I'd say it was a great massage that got the results I wanted, but certainly not for everyone! The therapist was brilliant, but sadly the noise and available facilities let the place down somewhat.

Not overly impressed by this place at all. The spa area was extremely average at best a tiny pool which was full for 2 hours with over an over 60's class, tiny jacuzzi which was full all the time and a steam room and sauna which were ok. Nothing special at all, worse than an average gym. We both had two treatments, the hot stone was ok, bit painful at times, i asked for medium force and my back feels like its been punched all over!. Both really enjoyed the facial, i would have this again, very relaxing indeed and worth the money. Few things were not great... it wasnt that easy to relax in the treatment room, the low music didn't drown out the sound of the gym next door, and hearing people grunt from using the weights. The therapist also checked her phone at least 3 times after i heard it vibrate and then i could hear her clicking buttons, extremely unprofessional IMO. all in all very pleased i got a cheap deal as the only thing that was good was the facials, wont be going back here again however!

My lovely friend got myself and her a spa day at the ocean rooms spa for my birthday, we had the most wonderful full body massage and facials. We later relaxed by the pool. Didn't want to leave will be going back for her birthday in a few weeks time. Thanks to the great staff at the spa my birthday was complete counting down the days to my next visit.

I can only encourage you to go somewhere else! The beautician took off half my eye brow during the eye brow wax. However, I could have put that down to a bad day if it had not been for the fact that I was over-charged by £60 for the treatment! The beautician then had to call the Glasgow office to give them my card details (which makes me think that my card details will be cloned any time now). Over the next two days she called me several times to because she thought the payment had not gone through. When I checked my bank balance however, it turned out that she had taken the money twice. When I called her, she needed to check that with the head office, but for two weeks did not call me back. Only when I spoke to her supervisor did I get my refund. The customer service is appalling and I wound not go back to that spa again!!! In the end I manage to get this one month after the treatment.
