For the price, I would definitely recommend it! Its everything you expect of a budget hotel.
Pros -
Clean, comfy, bright room. Awesome bed and power shower.
Pool area was well maintained and not too busy.
Sauna and steam rooms were roasting hot, in a good way.
Massage was excellent. I asked the girl to go to town with pressure, and she certainly did!
Treatment room was ambient and comfortable.
Gym had a wide range of machines and was clean and ventilated.
Dinner was delicious and the dining room was very pretty. Definitely overpriced to keep you to 2 courses as part of the deal, but still very tasty.
Great breakfast range!
Cons -
One particular girl on reception was very slow and gave that classic blank stare when asked about anything.
There were a lot of used cups and mugs lying around the waiting area of the treatment rooms, which made it look quite untidy and not welcoming.
Dinner was slow service even though the restaurant wasn't very busy.
We came down for breakfast half an hour before the service finished. We were lucky to get the last lot of cooked foods. However a group of about 8 who came down a few minutes later had to wait a while for a further batch of warm foods to be cooked. I recommend not going down last minute.

For the money paid we had a great time! Full use of the spa facilities, a workout, swimming, massage treatment, dinner, breakfast and a fab room.
Would I go again? Yes.

Amazing Hotel.
Lovely restaurant and the food is delicious. Staff waited for us when we arrive late on the first night.
Only little thing is the carpet in the Bar area. Really in need of a clean as its very dirty. but this doesnt spoil the nice relaxing atmosphere of the hotel

Had a lovely time as a birthday treat. Staff were very pleasant, friendley and helpful. Tried out the zumba class which was very fun but exhausting, instructor was very welcoming! Pool and jacuzzi were lush just wished they opened later than 9pm as theres no life guards i think if ur staying in hotel you should be able to use facilities 24 hours. Gym was very standard no special equipment. Tried out the sauna and steam room but couldn't last longer than a minute not for me. Food was delicious. Room was nice, beds a little too soft and dipped in the middle for my liking but you can't please everyone.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay and an absolute bargain! The photo's really don't do the place justice, its a lot nicer than it looks. Every member of staff we met were so helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough. Rooms are a little dated but for what we paid, and the way we were treated, have absolutely no complaints. Food was lovely, portion sizes were huge so good for those with big appetites! For me the key to a good experience is friendly and helpful staff which this place had in abundance. Definitely planning a trip back!

Good value for money - we've visited a few Spas across the UK and while the Mercure is not the best we've ever been to (it is after bearing in mind it is a 3* hotel with a spa attached), it is well situated, well-staffed and they made a real effort to please. Of particular note were the reception staff, who particularly helpful and managed to swap us to a Double room. Dinner and breakfast were also very good in terms quantity and quality (disappointing bread rolls being the only let-down for what would have been an relatively expensive dinner had it not been included - I fed this back to the manager via email though).

Please note that the Spa is not open on a Sunday (we were allowed to book a Sun night stay by the lastminute.com website and the small print with the opening hours is for some strange reason separate from the main text, below the reviews, right at the bottom of the page!). That said, they Spa were also very helpful and allowed us to come back on Tue for our treatments (as we had to leave early on Mon morning) as fortunately the hotel is just down the road from us. My massage was excellent by a friendly and professional masseuse and my wife also enjoyed her facial.

In conclusion, I would go back there especially as it is just down the road. There were a couple of minor niggles which were swiftly sorted on the whole and for the price we paid I have no real complaints.

booked this spa break as a surprise gift for my husband's birthday over the May bank holiday weekend. Was an 1hr and 20mins drive from London. Went to Swindon designer outlet before checking in, which is only less then 15mins from hotel. Good place to check out and shop when in the area as there are great deals for all ages... Hotel and Spa is in a Beautiful location. Secluded, which I'm a fan of. Staff are extremely friendly, which makes you feel extremely relaxed and welcomed. Room was a perfect size with nice size bathroom. Very clean with everything needed from robes, slippers, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, free Wi-Fi and nice samsung flat screen TVs.... pre ordered a platter of fruits to our room for an additional £3 and breakfast to room following morning for and additional £5 for us both and both fruit platter and breakfast was delicious. Spa facilities were nice and clean. A little busy, but wasn't surprised due to it being a bank holiday weekend. Disappointed that the steam room was out of order, which left the sauna packed and had to wait for others to come out before we could use. Breakfast came at 8:30am the following morning like I asked as our treatments were booked for 10am. We both had a 30min back, neck and shoulder massage where we shared in the same room as requested and extremely Happy we were able to share an amazing experience together. Happy they were able to accommodate my request. ...... chose a later checkout, so checked out at 12pm instead at no extra cost. Dinner was Okay. Not a big fan of carvery and the other menu wasn't appealing to me and I looooooove food so was a little disappointed... Overall, a wonderful experience and the birthday boy loved it so I'm Happy. Will DEFINITELY be back and recommend.

Had a great girly weekend. The staff were friendly, especially in the beauty rooms. Was also really impressed with the food in the resturant. Good gym facilities for a hotel with plenty of choice of cardio equipment. Given the cost overall I was impressed. Thanks for an amazing weekend.

An excellent 2 day stay at South Marsten Hotel & Spa.
Stunning food, Totally clean, spacious rooms and the best staff ever experienced at a hotel - Kelvin on reception could not do enough, Dan & Jamie in the restaurant worked hard and tended to every customer while Sammy was the best in always being Cheerful, helpful and joined in with our banter.
We will certainly book again at this hotel

Venue is functional rather than luxurious. But this doesn't matter as its very clean and rooms are comfortable and equipped adequately. Beds are comfortable and you get to control the temperature which is a bonus - stayed is some really overheated hotels where the only option is to open a window. Staff were fantastic; friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Corridors to the bedroom could do with some attention; they're a little tired and there are bleach stains on the carpet. Food was well-prepared and tasty; the Burns night menu was a nice touch. Area not a draw, but were there for the spa and a little break. All in all, a good value overnight break through lastminute.com which included treatments, dinner, bed and breakfast.

Nice place my only major quarm was the food was not that great. The free WiFi also needs a limited network connection so when I was in the bar and restaurant areas I could not use it

I found this place after trading in Clubcard points for Wahanda vouchers. We went for the One Night Spa Break (£150) which was brilliant value anyway, even more so with vouchers. I couldn't fault anything - food was brilliant, great gym, swimming pool, sauna and hot tub facilities, lovely back shoulder and neck massage. The £22.50 per head food allowance is great as 3 courses are only £22.95. One of my favourite things was that we could delay check out until 12pm for free, which was fab as I really didn't want to leave! Would recommend (and have recommended!) to anyone and everyone.
