The Garage Spa

The Garage is a building with history, preserved by its transformation from an ancient stopping station into a first class spa. We invite you to stop here too. Come and discover all you would expect of a modern spa and more; created with imagination and luxurious rural simplicity. A sumptuous decor awash with warm natural stone and timber welcomes you like an old friend.

This is no ordinary spa. Want your nails done? Step into the paint shop. Not firing on all cylinders? A full body MOT might be just what you need. Need to put the brakes on after exploring the gorgeous rolling Teesdale hills and highways? Then make The Garage your destination. Relax in our Shepherd’s Hut log sauna and hot tubs set in beautiful gardens, nibble on some home-made snacks in between treatments and feel the warmth of natural stone in our Romanesque steam rooms. Breathe in the benefits of our salt room with its stunningly-lit, aromatherapy-infused ancient salt block wall or relax in our dry float rooms where you can float on water without getting wet. We’ve put a unique and luxurious spa on the map and look forward to welcoming you to enjoy our one of a kind facilities and gorgeous treatments.

Had to wait until end of spa for afternoon tea which wasn't very clear when booking so had to order food during afternoon which was very limited in choice - a scone, teacake or biscuits. I found the atmosphere very calm and relaxing but due to volume if guests a few things let it down such as no water in sauna and no spare robes or towels. Overall I had a lovely afternoon and found the staff to be helpful and polite.

Highly recommended. Thank you for a fabulous afternoon of successful de-stressing, which was just what the doctor ordered and more. A lovely treat.

I went with my mum for a Mother's Day treat and we both loved it. We loved how everything had a garage theme, all the little details made it feel special. The afternoon tea was scrumptious too.

Very lovely spa. Lovely, attentive, skilled therapists. Treatment (reflexology) was excellent. Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious and very generous. Couldn't eat it all!

We spent an enjoyable afternoon using the facilities and having afternoon tea- which was lovely.
There were several different areas to try including something a bit different in the way of the Shepherd's Hut and Salt Room. Worth a visit.

On arrival completed questionaire, then got shown around the facilities, we were provided with dressing gown and slippers and there were individual changing rooms to use. we went for the afternoon followed by afternoon tea. The weather was lovely so we could make use of the outdoor area and because of this it didn't feel too busy. Nice range of things to use and the salt room something different. Afternoon tea was lovely, with some nice sweets included.

We visited the Garage spa, set in a lovely rural setting, our package included use of the facilities and afternoon.tea. The sun was shining so we were able to make use of the sunloungers outside in the outside area. An enjoyable afternoon, finished with a nice tea.

I went on the overnight Spa package with a friend. The hotel is beautiful, lots of character. We checked into our rooms which were outside of the hotel, beside the Spa and they were beautiful rooms which led out onto a nice garden, and were then taken to the Spa. The girl at the desk in the Spa didn't know have any answers to our questions, and had to keep finding other members of staff to ask them, (simple questions like how much is a cup of coffee). We were given a menu for our lunch, 2 x courses. The menu is quite substantial with plenty of choice. Then we were shown around the Spa. I was very impressed as everything was absolutely spotlessly clean, plenty of rest areas and the outside hot tub was lovely, though it needs to be turned on more frequently. We went to the hotel in our robes and had a fantastic lunch, then back to the Spa for our first treatment which was a Rasul and mud treatment. My friend and I were given some mud, but there was not enough for 2 people so we could not cover our bodies. Then we went upstairs for our massages. I was massaged by Simon who was very very good, in fact it was the best massage I have ever had. Simon is an absolute assett to the Spa as he is forever topping up water, fire and cleaning as well as doing treatment. We then had a rest in our rooms and went for evening meal (included in the overnight package). The food was excellent, and the young man and woman who served us could not have been more helpful. Their knowledge of the food was excellent and they were extremely efficient at their jobs. The breakfast the next morning was superb, and the bread for the toast is home made. Excellent.
I would highly reccommend the overnight package at the Garage Spa We had a brilliant day/night.

I took my now Fiancée to The Garage Spa as a treat for her "birthday". Little did she know that this trip for the weekend was all about a proposal. The staff were fantastic, they ensured that every aspect of my plans were catered for, going as far as ordering and delivering roses on the day and setting up the Rolls Royce suite for me to use in a truly romantic way.

Aside from my proposal which did make this review a little more special, I can honestly say that the staff are friendly, warm hearted, and genuinely down to earth people. They made us feel very welcome and the people around us also seemed very happy.

The treatments were amazing, everywhere was very clean and tidy, and even if it did get a little messy with us patrons about, within 5 minutes it was spotless again! Very pleased overall with the service.

The Garage Spa itself is immaculate inside. Still as new, spacious in places, and cosy in others, the balance here is just right. It may lack a swimming pool right now but what is has already makes up for that in every way. I especially enjoyed the indoor jacuzzi and hot/cold plunge pools.

This is a must visit, must see, must experience spa... :-)

This was a fabulous afternoon and really good value. The staff were really friendly. The atmosphere was perfect. This is a new facility an the attention to detail in the design and finish of the fixtures and fittings was perfect. Loved the spacious individual changing rooms with individual shower and toilet, the shephards hut sauna and out door hot tub. The half day spa session which included a magnificent afternoon tea was really good value, the treatments about what you would expect to pay. I had a stress busting massage with Charlotte, it was excellent.
My only hopefully constructive comments not criticisms are:
We had a group session in the mud room.....great fun but a clearer explanation of what was going to happen and a bit more mud please, also this would have been boring and expensive if I had done it on my own.
The salt room temperature could do to be slightly warmer.
The afternoon tea was splendid however a pre ordered wheat free portion had obviously been forgotten, when it did arrive it was very good. Perhaps a little more savoury sandwiches and a little less sweet stuff?......and the scones were a bit dry.
These are all minor niggles. we all agreed it was the best spa facility we have visited and we will certainly be back.

I have to agree with previous reviews.. we had a fantastic visit to the garage spa at the weekend. The facilities are fabulous and really unique and quirky which is why i have given it a 5 star rating. It is much nicer than other local spas in the same price range and we all thoroughly enjoyed our treatments (two MOT facials and a lava shell massage).

However, I would like the management to address a few problems that we encountered. These are similar to those noted by previous reviewers. I booked the spa for myself, my older sister and my Mum as a birthday/mothers day treat. We each booked one treatment and a half day use of the facilities. I deliberatly booked all our treatments at different times so that there was always at least two of us to use the other facilities. However, there were some problems (I booked treatments at 9, 10 and 11am) but due to a mix up with their system/booking of staff an error had occurred which left us having two treatments at 10am, leaving myself waiting around (i.e. not making full use of the facilities) for nearly an hour before and then my Mum waiting a full hour on her own waiting for myself and my sister to have our treatments. This hugely disrupted our day which otherwise would have been perfect. Alongside this my Mum was given the wrong facial (i.e. not the microdermabrasion that was ordered, an MOT instead).

All these issues were raised with staff on the day- we received a polite apology but I left feeling that through no fault of our own we werent able to make full use of the facilities as planned.

Dont get me wrong this is a fantatstic spa and teething problems are to be expected- but on this occasion the lack of organisation spoilt our day :(

I booked The Garage half day spa & afternoon tea for my Mam for Mother's Day & it was perfect! The facilities are fantastic and top spec. I loved the themed details with the spanner hooks and car lamp lights etc we had such as relaxing day and enjoyed every minute, it was a luxury experience and we also tried out the mud pit which was amazing - I would highly recommend! The afternoon tea was a welcome treat after our spa and was served on gorgeous china.

I would definitely go back and would recommend anyone to go, it is a great venue for couples with their own private hot tub, a lovely girly day out with friends or a gift for someone special.

Went with 2 friends having discovered the website by chance
Half day spa with lunch was good value and felt well paced - we were occupied and entertained throughout the 3 hours in the Spa followed by 30 mins in the Mud Pit rasul chamber then delicious 2 course lunch. Enjoyed a sneaky blueberry muffin mid morning too!
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Numbers of guests are limited and I never felt that the facilities got over-crowded despite visiting on a weekend.
The rasul mud chamber accommodates up to 4 people. I really enjoyed this treatment and my skin felt so soft afterwards!

The only small things that I would change were:
- perhaps have optional background music in quiet areas such as the salt room as the noise and chatter of other guests arriving and having tours round the facilities was quite distracting
- Although I loved the idea of the individual changing rooms and facilities it was very hot in the small space immediately after a shower so not ideal for getting dressed and blow drying your hair! Shampoo and body wash are provided but do take your own conditioner and body lotion if needed.

This was a perfect place for friends, a couple or a quiet spa session on your own and I look forward to my next visit

I visited The Garage Spa with my mother, she had a massage with Simon claiming it was the best she'd ever had! I booked a micro dermal facial with Amy although it was non too comfortable(pain is gain!) Amy could not have been more friendly or helpful.
We spent the morning enjoying the rest of the facilities which were excellent, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the atmosphere was lovely.
Overall well worth a visit and worth the price.
