Spa lovely, staff nice. Food could be much better.
We had a lovely visit to the bridge hotel spa on a 2-4-1 deal. The outside areas are lovely (hot tub, sauna and plunge pool). Spa is very small and on a busy day could get cramped, however for us it was fine. Afternoon tea and bubbly was nice. Only negative was the male changing rooms were out of order - couldn’t be helped however it was suggested that my partner change in the toilet as there was nowhere else available, also meaning he couldn’t have a shower. Other than that, a lovely afternoon.
My friend and I spent a lovely morning at The Bridge. It was good value for money but not sure we would return. The hotel is nicely decorated and the surroundings are lovely. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us round. We noted that some of the non-therapist treatments were on special offer for the day so we booked the rasul-mud treatment. We were given a skin sample to try by the therapist to check there would be no adverse effects on sensitive skin. We used all of the facilities, which were all clean and in good working order. We particularly enjoyed the outside hot tub and sauna. A pool would have made the experience so much better but we always knew there wasn't one, so we cant knock marks off for that :) The mud treatment was ok for the discounted rate price. You are taken to a private steam room (up to four people) and are given a bowl of the mud substance to apply to your body. We were told that after ten minutes steam would be released in to the room, after another 10 minutes the overhead showers would come on to wash off the mud. We duly applied the mud to our bodies, face and hair, then sat and waited for the steam. It felt a lot longer than ten minutes and when it did come it was very light steam, no where near like in a steam room. Not long after the showers came on. The whole experience did last 30 minutes as expected, and my skin did feel nice afterwards. The two improvement areas are the toilet/changing rooms and the food. There is only one toilet to be shared between male and female guests. I am not sure what the maximum capacity is however I suppose you could use the hotel toilet if you didn't mind wandering around in your dressing gown. The changing rooms are far too small. Not sure whether it was a issue that a number of guests ended their session and the same time but there was just not enough room. Only one mirror, which was useless because of the shower steam. Not enough benches, not even any standing room. Two ladies tried to come in to get changed and ended up turning back round. We did not book any lunch however decided to go to the bar after the spa to get some food. We ordered two burgers @£15.25 each and waited almost 45 minutes for them to arrive. When they did arrive there was an issue with both dishes which led to one being re-made and in the end full refunds. The staff were very apologetic so we cannot fault them for rectifying the issue. However despite this I would say that the dish was very overpriced for the quality. It certainly didn't feel special for the price - bog standard bread bun, not particularly tasty burger and what tasted like frozen chips.
The hotel and spa were both unclean and had not been properly cleaned for a long period. Fouled filters in the outdoor hot tub, Caked on hair and dirt one of the spa saunas including discarded paper cups that were stuck to the floor. They had not been left there earlier the same day. Thick layer of dirt and hair on several ledges and skirting boards in the hotel room, just out of sight that had not been cleaned for a long period. Either the rooms are not being cleaned between guests, or the cleaners do not care. Mould and clogged drain within the hotel room shower. The shower smelled of eggs when we checked in. Evening carvery was good overall although a starter was cold. The restaurant and serving surfaces had not been cleaned properly before breakfast because there was a large blob of horseradish sauce left next to the breakfast trays in plain sight. Again, attention to detail and a proper cleaning program should have picked this up. It was in plain sight. Spoke to the hotel manager on check out who kindly listened to our complaints and offered us a partial refund for the spa part of our stay.
Nice place. The hot tub looked a little dirty tho, water was a strange greenish colour and heavy chemical smell and scum on the top, and the toilets were not very clean. Changing rooms were very small. But good for a few hours.
