Staff were very helpful. Just had bit of a spruce up so everything smelt new. Would definitely return. Was able to pop out for something to eat at lunch so location was good.

Fire alarm went off and we had to go in to the street in our towels with wet hair, in our bikinis. It was bloody freezing and joe public staring. Eventually we were brought dressing gowns and let in after 15 mins.
I understand this may happen - safety first etc... , but there was no apology, especially when it affected my treatment time - my treatment was shortened and much later. This was after they messed up my treatment times beforehand. It just ruined it, I was stressed, not relaxed...

The first treatment was a Indian head massage - basically just running her fingers through my cold wet knotted hair (as I had been outside) - it hurt
My facial was good though - by a different lady.

I would definitely NOT pay again.

Felt totally relaxed at the Spa, during treatments and afterwards. Definitely would go again. Would be even better if refreshments were available .

Received spa day voucher as gift.

Booking - OK but I was told my treatment appointment was 5(five).30pm. When I rang on the day of the appointment to check when I should arrive I was told that the appointment had been made for 3(Three).30pm!!! Not my mistake as at time of booking I had twice confirmed the time as 5.30pm

Arrival at Quay Street - pleasant and helpful male receptionist who called me by my Christian name without asking my permission. Bad manners. I am an older woman (old enough to be the receptionist's mother) and I don't like this assumption now and I didn't when I was a young woman. Training issue here - staff should ask clients how they would prefer to be addressed. Receptionist mentioned other things I could pay for eg hire of towels, etc., but didn't hard sell. Instructions for getting to the ladies changing rooms, etc., turned out to be a bit vague. I was told I would find staff downstairs to report to regarding treatments - I couldn't.

On arrival at locker room - I had to do my own recce to find facilities eg showers, loos, sauna, steam room, swimming pool, etc. No staff in evidence so no-one to ask for info or advice.

Swimming pool and Jacuzzis - no supervision at all at the poolside - safety issue. Occasionally a member of staff would come or go out of a door marked "Staff Only" but scooted through the pool area quickly paying no attention to it at all. Small notice said that anyone seeing a swimmer in difficulties should call an attendant but no information about where the attendant might be found. Wrong (and possibly actionable in the event of injury or fatality) to delegate responsibility for the safety of swimmers to clients. No safety equipment visible.

Pool area scruffy. At least one ladder provided for getting out of the water was loose on it's fittings - dangerous.
Accumulations of dirt in the antique stained glass ceiling above pool, grubby walls (all over the building, in fact), dirt and dust on fixtures in ceiling of pool area and in locker room area areas there was accumulated dust and fluff above normal line of sight, such as on locker tops. This was more like months of not dusting rather than a few days. Floor not clean in corners, polystyrene ceiling tiles coming loose. Poor lighting in changing area.

When time for my treatments I had to return to reception for instructions for finding treatment rooms. Found them. No-one around and notice instructing clients to go into waiting area. Waiting area comfortable with magazines to read but lighting so low that reading impossible. Waiting area not peaceful due to load roaring noise (from concealed heating/ventilaton ducts?) . No-one around. Sat in waiting area for ages. Eventually I was called for my treatment (after I had gone to the treatment reception desk to report my presence. Treatments excellent. Treatment rooms clean, warm, comfortable and quiet..

Overall - I was surprised and concerned, given the warren of stairs and passages, that there didn't seem to be any instructions posted clearly for emergency procedures and no relevant advice was given at check in. I was concerned by the absence of staff (from what I could see this was also the case in the gym) in high risk areas and no indication of where to find first aid facilities or instructions as to how to summon aid in the event of an accident. (I should probably state an interest at this point. Prior to retirement I was a HSE qualified Health and Safety rep at a major national utility company.)

I would probably return for treatments but I wouldn't bother with the spa/pool/gym until cleanliness, staffing and safety issues have been addressed.

I visited this spa for a massage and was very happy with the service, the treatments and the facilities available afterwards. Not a country retreat but not sure what people expect for Central Manchester!

The facial was lovely. The Jacuzzi and sauna were nice. The pool was very cold and it felt a bit like you were in a dark basement.

Never had reflexology but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Really lovely ambience and the therapist was excellent. Left feeling nice & relaxed and she gave me information on the outcomes of the reflexology.

Treatments excellent, therapists knowledgeable and not pushy when giving you the sales spiel at the end. Could have been better if there was a larger seating area, only 2 chairs for our group of 3 wasn't great, and there were other people waiting too.

We used the pool too, pool area is ok. Generally clean though there were some hair elastics and dirty plasters on the side which I am hoping the cleaner simply hadn't got to yet. The general pool area could do with a good deep clean and some oerall improvement. The mirrored walls were starting to lose their covering by the jacuzzi.

Sauna clean. They have a separate one for men and women if you're worried about that kind of thing.

Beware of the extra costs. £3 to hire a bathrobe, towel and slippers but they let you keep the slippers and the tote bag it comes in. Bathrobes are quite tatty with lots of loose threads and generally didn't get the 'luxury' feeling that I've had at other spas.

Take a large padlock for the locker unless you want to pay extra to hire one (though you do get this money back, it's more inconvenience).

Gym doesn't have a great deal of equipment but clean and nothing out of order.

Hairdryers in changing rooms but no dryer for swimwear. Wet kit bags are provided.

Worth going but only if you've got a voucher - don't pay full price as it's not worth it.

I bought a voucher online for an eyebrow was or tweeze. But wahanda contacted me the deal was not available anymore and I had to ring the salon for further queries and reschedule my appointment. So I did. They haven't phoned me back jet so still waiting to go down to get my brows tidied. Maybe not the best customer service from this place.. I have been to Banatyne spas before and allways received good excellent service in the past.

Thanks

This place was ok sure it is not the best Spa I have been to but it is not as bad as a lot of the reviews here make out...Had a relaxing time here and the staff were friendly when i visited, maybe I would not recommend it to my friends but if they said they were planning a visit i would not advise against it!
All together a nice place and worth a visit if your in the area.

I bought a voucher for an expert facial plus neck and shoulder massage, but when I booked the treatment at my chosen venue it was not clear to me whether I had to book separately the facial and the massage or the massage was included in the facial... After a few e-mails it was clear that the massage was included... Apart from this, the venue was nice and cosy, the staff kind and polite, the facial and massage superb and the other facilities quite good. Overall, a great experience!

Firstly, they had messed up the booking and had cancelled our appointment even though we replied to their confirmation email the day earlier! There were no cafe facilities at all which was surprising as we would have stayed longer if there were. The treatments were good and the staff were nice. It was more the mess ups with the booking and the lack of cafe facilities that were disappointing. All in all it was ok, but for £100 for two of us, we were expecting something pretty great. I would not go back.

Hi, i bought my son and his partner the spa day for 2 and they only stayed a few hours and had exactly the same experience as you. They also should have got a free tub of cream which didnt appear. It is very badly run, I think Mr Bannatyne needs to pay it a visit because something is going adrift. I am very upset about it as it was a lot of money and i wanted my son to have a lovely day with his girlfriend.

dont go to this place in manchester we were just told to rebook when we turned up for a relaxing spa day . First there is no parking. we asked at the desk where we could park and were sent to parking, we walked back to venue to be told we were too late for treatment and no other treatments were available. so much for advertising relaxing in the sauna being met by staff who will offer and explain all services. We were 18 minutes past app time and even though we had arrived sooner than this and asked for help with parking we were treated as if we didnt matter after travelling 50miles to get there we were not offered any other service till we asked. By which time none of us wanted to stay in the place for anything. So if you get a gift for a spa day at bannatyne spas. Dont even think about quay st. in manchester. We are writing to trading standards. Disgusted.

We both had a great time. The staff were professional, the atmosphere was great and the spa was nice too. I loved the fact that we could have a massage in the same room at the same time. We had a very relaxing time.

Read previous reviews and was a little worried about coming here for a Spa day with my friend, Mum & sister. We knew from the other reviews that there weren't any refreshment facilities so we were quite happy to get lunch at the Starbucks across the road. When I emailed the club about times of classes, I received a very nice welcome reply which was reassuring. And when we turned up on the day, the staff were friendly & helpful. The facilities were better than I expected with a good sized pool, 2 jacuzzis, steam room & sauna. The gym overlooks the pool and there is a stained glass ceiling over the pool, which I thought added to the Victorian feel of the building. The treatments were great - we had a neck, shoulder & back massage as well as a scalp massage - i felt really good afterwards. There were 2 things that weren't so great e.g. No private changing cubicles for those of us that don't do communal changing rooms and having to hire towels, robes & slippers - have been to the Marriott & they don't charge for these things. But overall we had a really good time & would go back again.
