Sonas Spa at Thainstone House Hotel part of Crerar Hotels

Thainstone House Hotel's leisure club, Inverurie, is open to both hotel residents and local members.

Relax during your stay in the leisure club. The heated indoor swimming pool is great for a relaxing swim, with the hot tub providing an additional, calming retreat. The sauna and steam room are ideal for soothing those muscles after a session in our well-equipped gym.

Our beauty therapists provide a variety of luxury Elemis spa and beauty treatments from full body massage to cleansing facials and pampering manicures and pedicures. Our treatment rooms are situated to the left of the swimming pool if you enter the club from the lower gallery of the hotel.

Sitting resplendent in acres of private garden and lush meadowland, Thainstone House Hotel has been lovingly designed to provide superb levels of hospitality. In the very heart of rural Aberdeenshire in the beautiful countryside of Inverurie, and close by to towns such as Ellon and Huntly, you find yourself in an oasis of tranquillity, a majestic Palladian mansion where you can relax as our friendly staff make you feel immediately at home.

Thainstone House offers an impressive history; in the 18th century, the Jacobites put Thainstone to torch, however James Wilson of Thainstone escaped the fire and fled to America, where he later put his name to the American Declaration of Independence.

Under new ownership in the 19th century, the present mansion was redesigned by renowned architect Archibald Simpson, who was responsible for shaping much of the present day city of Aberdeen.

I booked a hot stones therapy but when I arrived was told none of the staff present that day were able to supply this treatment and would I mind having a different massage without stones. I complied and the massage was ok, not the best I've had though. Staff were polite and did their best.

Hmmm... this sounded like a good value deal, but the spa definitely is in need of some TLC The changing room facilities were old fashioned and shabby looking, and the temperature of the changing area was much too cold for comfort. The equipment in the gym was very out of date, and the pool is a bit on the small side. The sauna and steam were ok though, and nice powerful showers. Lovely lunch in the fantastic drawing room next to a roaring log fire, though!
