As usual, Serene Spa Beauty and Health in Balham impresses because it's so good value, and the therapists always know what they are doing. Would recommend, and will continue to go back.

I have been visting Serene Spa for about the last two years, it is one of those places you just stumble accross and realise how good value it is, the staff are very friendly, the facilities are also very good. I usually book for the 1 hour steam / Sauna / Massage combination, all therapists a 100% professional, caring, and leave you very relaxed, my main therapist I now see is Vicky who is excellent, very experienced and cannot wait to visit again.
Highly recommended.

Great Brazilian wax as usual, and it was less pain-free this time. The therapist was great as always. The best bit about coming here was that I asked for my eyebrows threading too (supplementary to my booking) and they did it for free! Thanks very much.

The wax started dead on time but was less than 10minutes long which I found quite surprising. It also wasn't the most pain-free wax I've ever had! However, when assessing the next day (after the normal redness has gone down), all the hair seems to have been removed and so I cannot really complain about that. An option to have had hot wax (even if more expensive) would have been nice as this would last a bit longer. I would go back and at least I know it won't take much time out of my day!

Great spa in Balham, I was mainly attracted by the price - it's really good value. The therapist was kind and put up with my squealing as it was the first time I'd had a Brazilian wax... Would recommend to other South Londoners.

I visited the salon as a Valentine treat from my hubby. From the moment I entered to the very last minute I left, I was literally waited on, hands and foot. Staff were very polite, my massage session was great and I felt the effect for almost a whole month. it was my first facial after a very long time and i was a bit aprehensive; but all my aprehension soon faded away at the exquiste touch of the pretty and smartly dressed beautician, who intermittently stopped to check I was okay.

I had a wonderful experience and am looking forward to visiting the Salon again in a forthnight.

Me and my boyfriend visited the spa last weekend on the recommendation of a friend of mine and we were so glad we took the advice. I had a crystal facial and was a little nervous beforehand because i have extremely sensitive skin but afterwards i was beyond pleased, you could actually see the difference immediately, my skin was glowing, soft and clear and even up to a week later i still had no need to use my foundation :)
I also had a thai massage and my boyfriend had a swedish massage. I loved my thai massage and he loved his swedish massage so much we decided to have massages at least once every two weeks.
The staff were really nice and made us feel comfortable and we even got a little discount which i thought was very sweet.
I thought it was nice they have gift certificates for treatments and purchased one for my friend that recommended it in the first place.

I wouldn't go back to Serene!
The massage: I booked in for a swedish massage, but got a very rough thai massage. There was no communication so it was a bit of a surprise when the therapist started doing all the thai stuff! When i got in, I asked if the therapist could just work on my back as i hold my tension there, she said no and did a full body massage. She never asked about medical history, so I forgot to mention an old injury and hwas really sore for a week afterwards. Worst of all, the therapist had really long fingernails on one hand - she kept scratching me! Gross!

The room was cold, I had to ask for more towels to cover me. The music was horrible noodly jazz, the CD kept skipping so the therapist kept having to stop the masage and leave the room to sort it out. The massage table made worrying creaky noises and wobbled a bit every time she applied pressure. I really didn't enjoy the experience - to the extent that I asked for her to stop before she had finished. The surroundings downstairs are really unglamorous and kind of grubby looking. I really wouldn't recommend going there.

My wife booked my appointment with serene spa in balham, after she raved about the crystal clear oxygen treatment she had enjoyed in january. The reason for her visit was to experience ,after reading an article that Kate Middleton had the crystal oxygen treatment leading up to her royal wedding to William.
My wife persuaded me to have a male intimate wax and massage , When i arrived i was given the grand tour of the spa, which was very impressive by a tall slim receptionist .The sauna and steam room were very clean and the whole ambience and soft music of the salon made me feel relaxed even before my treatment.
The waxing was carried out in by a very experienced therapist with speed and with minimal pain which was superb ,as my past experience in other salons has bordered on extreme discomfort.
From the beauty room i was transferred to a massage room with soft music and low lights.
My massage was carried out by a lady named charmagne for one hour ,and once again the treatment was superlative.
I then had a manicure carried out by a young lady who told me she had been woking at Serene for the past eighteen months she also was very impressive.
She guided me to the sauna and steam room and provided me with ice cold water from a water machine.
The whole experience was fantastic and cannot wait to return ,Thank you all at serene for making me feel so important Ken

After a long search I found Serene Spa which looked wonderful online. On arrival my friend and I were asked to pay up front which wasnt a problem. Our reception was quite pleasant, new customers I guess!
After a nasty fall in the steam room with no drainage and bruising my hand, I then had a masage which I must say was absolutely wonderful, the therapist was brilliant and really took her time, however the room was freezing-no heating and afterwards I had to dress in tiny cupboard that was supposed to be a changing room, this was even colder then the treatment room as there was no heating again and no-where to sit either. As a therapist myself I know that aftercare of your clients is also very important but it seems that once my money was taken at the door it didnt matter. I didnt even have a chance to complain as no-one bothered to see us out or ask if we'd enjoyed our time at Serene. That will definately be my first and last visit to Serene spa.

This salon has very convenient appointment times and can squeeze you in the same day - a big bonus for me as the nature of my job prevents me from planning treatments far in advance.

I've been here two times as it is so convenient. They also offer use of sauna after a treatment, but I have not taken them up on this.

Previous occasion would have garnered four stars, with the exception of the facilities and ambiance - walls are paper thin and the staff had a number of conversations during my thai/swedish massage. However, the massage on that occasion was once one of the best I've had but this may be more so down to the therapist than general salon standards (Julia? a Thai woman who did not talk much but was very professional).

My next visit was what this rating is based on.

The facial was below-par by most salon standards. Good dermotologica products were used, but it felt like a bit like receiving treatment at a beauty school. The therapist seemed in a bit of a hurry, didn't proceed with any sort of consultation or questions about my normal skin regime and did not give me the opportunity to remove my collared shirt, all of which I found strange and decidedly unrelaxing.

She finished after 45 minutes of my 1hour facial and I was left by myself in a state of confusion - I was due to have a massage immediately following and had assumed it would take place in the same room. After about 5 minutes of waiting on my own in the room, I made my way outside where I had to interrupt the chatting receptionists. I took a seat again and after another 10 minutes was escorted to a new room by a young and friendly woman.

The massage that followed was average, and the professionalism and friendliness of the masseuse took away some of the frustration of the earlier part of the visit.

I desperately want this salon to be improved because I'd love for it to be my local. However, even with the good prices, the inconsistency is a put-off. It feels like their focus is quantity of clients over quality of experience.

I may go again at some point if I want a treatment at the last minute, but am certainly not rushing back

Came across this day spa when I was looking for a local venue to go for a facial one Sunday afternoon. I booked and made the appointment for the same day. The facial was fabulous and I was given lots of freebies (Dermalogica). The therapist really knew what she was doing and I came out glowing. Have to be honest and say I've not had a thai massage before so I may be being unfair on the therapist for this one but I didn't particularly enjoy it, although I did feel invigorated afterwards, if a little sore. I will definitely be a returning customer.

I was very excited when I saw this new spa open in Balham as there aren't many places to go in the area where you can get good specialist treatments. As it's still new I was lucky enough to call and book in on a Saturday afternoon. Result! My therapist Caroline was great, she aired on just the right side of talkative without ruining my relaxation. I had a one hour dermalogica facial and was pleased with the treatment which included both a steam and extraction, leaving my skin glowing!, and the best thing was it was only £40, which is half what I normally have to pay in town. A total bargain ... I will definitely be back.
