Sandwell Park Golf Club

Sandwell Park Golf Club is a traditional members golf club. It was formed as West Bromwich Golf Club in 1895 and moved to Sandwell Park at Christmas 1897, on land owned by the Earl of Dartmouth. In 1946 the Club purchased the land from the Earl and since that time it has continued to develop. The Old Clubhouse was demolished in the early 1990's and a superb modern one built which is second to none. It is now in the enviable position as being one of the leading clubs in the West Midlands.

The course was designed by the famous designer H S Colt, who has designed over 300 courses around the world. Included are the famous links of Formby, Gullane, Murfield and Royal Troon with further afield designs of Royal Dublin and Royal Melbourne. In October 1901 Harry Vardon and the then Open Champion James Braid played over Sandwell Park Golf Club and when asked about their opinion of the course both expressed "that its the best inland links they have ever played on"

The exclusive and picturesque course wanders over wooded heath land and is generally recognised to be a challenge to the most experienced of golfers, with it's greens renowned for their borrows and speed.

The original architect was H.S.Colt who has provided a course of nature's own making where each hole is entirely separate, shielded from the others by either natural banks or lines of tress.

In all, we have a course that demands difficult carries and requires careful placing of shots that have to be given a great deal of thought. With naturally undulating fairways that create difficult and testing approach shots to the greens, we have, undoubtedly, one of the Midlands' finest courses.
