We don’t have any salespeople, and we don’t bother with all the extras like juice bars and childcare that drive up costs and can make a gym membership seem more like a car payment. Instead, we’ve boiled our business down to the things that you really want in a health club – clean, stylish, hassle-free facilities that are filled with tons of brand-name cardio and strength equipment, and a lot of happy people. If you’re looking for a comfortable, friendly place to exercise, and like a great deal, then you’ll love Planet Fitness.

I got a membership 2 years ago. I stopped using it because I moved an hour and 1/2 away. I called to cancel and they said I had to come in person to cancel the membership. I advised them that it would require me to drive a total of 3 hours there and back to cancel my membership, and asked if I could do it by phone. They then informed me that the only other method of canceling is to send a certified letter. I informed them that I am very busy. I go to school full time and I work full time. I informed them that I do all my correspondence by phone or email. Their reply was that there is no way they can cancel my membership by phone, email, or fax so I looked up the corporate phone number to see if there is anything they could do. They mirrored the response that the individual at the store location provided. I then asked to speak to a manager. The individual on the phone got argumentative, and advised me that I couldn't speak to a manager regarding this issue. I insisted that I speak to someone above her, and then she hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to manager without giving a reason, and the individual refused to allow me to speak to a manager. She even said that there was no manager. After a few minutes, this person hung up on me as well. I am very frustrated with this happening. It seems like they are intentionally preventing people from being able to cancel. This is a HUGE SCAM, and I strongly discourage anyone from ever joining this gym.
In frustration, I issued a dispute with my credit card, and contacted the BBB to issue a complaint. This is terrible service.
