Having been to a few Pilates sessions at local gyms and not really feeling any benefits, I had given up on it as a form of exercise. But, being a runner, my boyfriend convinced me to try again as he said it was great for injury prevention.

I finally stumbled across Chris Hocking at PBA and realised Pilates is an art form. It is wonderful to have a teacher who understands anatomy so well and deliver lessons which are focussed, practical and useful.

Finsbury Hall venue is nice and staff at the entrance is friendly, the room is not super clean but you can live with it, the pilates teacher is undeniably knowledgeable, however i would say that beginners are not really taken into account - it would have been nice to have a 5min introduction with the teacher.

Nice experience, room is cosy. Teacher seems to be very experienced and explains well why each posture is important, although sometimes the exercises should be shown twice before students have to make them.

I've been looking for a Pilates class that focuses on technique since moving to London a few years ago and am so pleased to have found this! I took a similarly technique-focused class years ago and it rid me of back pain and left me looking and feeling better.

I was sick of the Pilates classes at my local gym where people were crammed into a room and rushed through a series of exercises with no individual attention or direction from the instructor whatsoever. At PBA you focus on doing each move properly so that your body is correctly aligned and so that you get the full benefit out of the effort you're putting in.

I'm only three classes in to my first course here but already feel like I've made great progress. I'm really looking forward to developing and advancing my technique even further going forward!

I've been attending PBA since early 2013 and, while I don't have too much to benchmark against, am very impressed and have no intention to look elsewhere. Perhaps classical Pilates sounds like a simpler, easier option - well it is not. With Chris' attention to detail, you learn the 'basics' very quickly but keep on learning and improving to get it exactly right and know why. It's a thoroughly educational experience, and of course is doing wonders for my general health and fitness.

I came to Chris Hocking's Pilates Body Awareness classes as I had suffered from serious back problems since childhood and my osteopath suggested I try pilates to work on my 'core strength'. A friend recommended Chris. I had a couple of one-to-one sessions and found that Chris, quietly but expertly, understood what was going on with my body and gently started to get me to think differently about movement, exercise and posture. I have been having regular lessons at the school for about 4 or 5 years and am completely committed to it and to Chris as I have not suffered any back pain at all since I walked through her doors (save the few times I am away from classes for over a month when I start to have problems again and badly need to get back into Chris's routine lessons). Chris is an excellent and experienced teacher, who understands bodies. In a pilates class she shares her knowledge of anatomy as well as putting us through precise and exacting programmes. I have never tried another pilates class and never would as i and my body get so much out of this committed and serious teacher.

Chris Hocking draws you into her unique pilates teaching from the first class. She explains exactly why and how you should be doing pilates regularly. It's difficult to justify not going! I would highly recommend sticking with it through the first level and into level 2 and beyond - her knowledge of the body and how it works cannot be found very often within pilates teaching - you learn something new in each class.

Fantastic class with a fantastic teacher - would highly recommend.
I had terrible trouble with my back for many years than I care to remember! I tried many 'Gym Based' Pilates Classes, which were enjoyable, but did nothing to ease my back (some made it worse). But Chris's PBBA classes have been a god send. in the 18 months I have been attending her classes I have not had a flair up for at least 16 months. This aside the teaching is amazing you learn so much about the body and how it is connected etc. All I can say is give it a try, it works for me and I'm sure it will for you.

I am a beginner to Pilates and have really enjoyed the classes with Chris Hocking. She gives specific advice, watches everyone carefully to make sure they're doing it right, moves bits of you if they are in the wrong place!

There's a friendly and relaxed environment but you feel challenged. The classes have been excellent for my posture, strength and energy levels. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve the quality of their lives.

I've been attending Chris' pilates classes for years, including through 2 pregnancies (once with twins). Her meticulous and exacting teaching methods mean this is no regular class! She understands a lot about how bodies work, will work hard to ensure everyone benefits from the positions despite different body shapes, and takes great pains to explain why she insists on a particular body movement / position. I find her classes great for the body - a fantastic stretch - and great for the mind - taking me away from the stresses of work, family and London life.

I have attended Chris Hocking's classes for years and am always impressed with her attention to detail, her rigorous approach and her joie de vivre! She is a brilliant teacher with great depth of knowledge of her subject. She also somehow memorises everyone's names and physique type so really gets to know her students well.

She has a great sense of humour and you'll learn lots - highly recommended.

I have worked for Chris in the past and we work together on Wellbeing days. But in her classes I am purely a student.
