I used to go for a swim at Oasis Sports Centre in Covent Garden and then life gets in the way and you change your habits etc but after a client told me about a drop in Ballet class at Oasis and was very impressed with the results she is getting in toning her body I want to try it out as well, so I will go back and do the class.

When I used to swim at Oasis I really enjoyed the outdoor swimming pool and it felt like being in Ibiza with music in the background and looking up at the blocks of flats surrouding the pool (just like those cheap and cheerful self catering apartments in San Antonio!). Ahhh the sweet taste of nostalgia and memories of being chatted up by a BBC subtitler...

Oasis is centrally located and it has not one, but two swimming pools. One indoor pool that has more serious swimming going on in lap lanes, and also an outdoor pool that is more of a free swim type pool. There are people of all ages and its actually not bad even though it has a ery concrete feel about it. There is a sundeck / tanning area that again, is very concrete.

Its definitely NOT luxurious by any means, but I used to pop down from my office some afternoons, you can pay for the day (so no membership required) and get some sun and pool action. Its not bad, and since I am not a member of Shoreditch House (not to mention its super far away), I guess the Oasis is good enough for me when I want some outdoor London pool action.

Thanks for sharing: I didn't know that now they do pay as you go, I used to be a member there about 10 years ago but then I started working in other areas of London, I will go back then.

Yeah, i would just go and pay between £5 and £10 for the entry. And there is a nice enough cafe there as well.

Oasis is really handy because it's right in the West End. When I went, on a Sunday afternoon for a swim, it was surprisingly not very busy. The building is quite dated and has a very municipal feel to it. The pool is perhaps a little smaller than olympic sized? I'm not sure, but basically it is a rectangular, six-laned, no-frills type of affair. It was bobbing with the grey, fluffy heads of breast-stroking old ladies. However, if all you want is a swim, that's not really an issue - there were different speed lanes so it does the job.

I had a quick look at the gym out of curiosity and I remember it being fairly small, but a bit nicer to look at than the pool area. There is a little cafe downstairs where you can grab a sarnie or coffee and the guy behind the counter was very sweet and even washed my apple for me in case it had any remnants of pesticides on it. Odd, but thoughtful.

Sadly the staff on the front desk were not as amiable. Overall, this is like a local pool, situated in a place where you wouldn't dream of finding such a thing. I hope it sticks around.
