Lovely relaxing spa with excellent facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our stay could not have been better. Thoroughly enjoyed dinner and breakfast. Spa treatments of back massage and taster facial where excellent.

The hotel was rather dated and not worth the cost of £380 for a double room for one night half board. There was an extra charge of £5 for the car park and my room wasn't ready when I checked in. I entered the room to find unmade beds. The bar prices were also exorbitant, a regular glass of white wine and a single gin and tonic was £23.

The staff could not do more to help us. From arrival we felt relaxed and enjoyed the stunning surroundings. Dinner was superb, although the service was at times a little lethargic (our wine glasses were regularly left empty- a trivial issue that did not detract from an enjoyable experienxe). The room itself was beautiful with a luxurious bed. Have recommended to several friends who will be booking trips in the next few months.

I was lucky enough to have a work trip here so didn't pick up the substantial bill but it has since been on my list to come back to as a treat as soon as that is some kind of possibility.....the spa facilities were exactly what I love - pool leading out to the spa bath outside (you swim under a wall) and enough things to do with water to keep me happy.

The bathroom in my room was gorgeous - another priority - and they left me some wee chocs, which always buys my affections!

Great food and lovely service in a really beautiful setting.

Room Positives - Was good size and well equipped and tastefully furnished. Bathroom nice size and had audio link to tv.
Room Negatives - Twin beds small for room size, would have expected queen sizes. Someone had crudely tried to remove stains from velvet effect chair damaging fabric. Net curtains and elabrate light needed cleaning.
Dining positives- Had the benefit of half board and really enjoyed the food. Good choices on the menu. Dining room had nice ambiance, well staffed and Manger very pleasant and responsive.
Dining Negatives - Had waitress abrubtly comment on the fact that I was 'by my self' and them spoke about 'putting me in a corner'. You can imagine how that made me feel! There were chinese and american tourist grous which were overly looked after ( I say at the expense of the independant diners like myself). Breakfast included was stricly continental and not the greatest of selection but ok. One could of course opt for cooked breakfast at a premium.
Spa Positives - Very nice and spacious with indoor pool and jacuzzi and oudoor hydro pool. Ample places to sit and relax. Beauty therapist dilgently checked health questionnaire and whilst it resulted in my not being able to take up the treatment booked (was not charged) the consequencies if my form was not checked could have been very serious.
Spa Negatives - The quiet relaxation room bit far removed from the the rest of the spa areas . The space was too dark to read and too light with noisy music to relax fully. No tea or coffee avialable on herbals and water, was complementary however. Limited choice of magazines and papers in relaxation area.
Location Positives - Hotel set in beautiful landscaped grounds. Very peaceful and within walking distance of town center.
Negatives - Walk uphill from town center. Train/bus station a good distance walk away

I was lucky enough to win a one night break to the MacDonald Bath Spa hotel in March.

I’d never been anywhere that contained a spa and didn’t really know what to expect. On the day of our treatments we dressed in our plush white dressing gowns and headed down to the spa, which was separate to the hotel. We signed in and had to fill out a form detailing any medical problems. Then we headed to the treatment rooms. I’d plumped for an anti-ageing facial.

After discussing my skin type with the therapist, the treatment began. It was absolutely amazing, from exfoliation to all sorts of wonderful smelling Decleor goodies including oils and balms, all massaged into my skin and applied to pressure points. I was also left alone in the darkened room while the treatment took effect, listening to soft music by candlelight. The emphasis was on tranquility and peace and it certainly was the perfect place to unwind and let your worries melt away!

I was also given a neck and arm massage and my skin needs were discussed. I was shown what had been used on my face and why. Afterwards I was led to the quietened ‘Relaxation Room’ where I could sip chamomile tea and sit, wind down and read a magazine whilst waiting for my friend to finish her treatment.

My face looked and felt amazing (or as amazing as it can do when it's completely bare!). I didn’t expect miracles but my face glowed! I was told not to put any make up on for the rest of the day – a scary thought but I did as I was instructed.

It was an extremely relaxing stay and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. My therapist was telling me all about her family and how she had only recently trained in this field and within a few minutes had put me completely at ease. I would highly recommend this spa – my friend and I really enjoyed our pampering stay and would love to go back for longer next time!
