Health And Vitality Centre

Health and Vitality Centre (earlier called Kensington Yoga and Therapy Centre) is keen on promoting Ayurveda, accepted as the earliest medical science in the world, which is a holistic science of healthy living.

Ayurveda is more than 5000 years old and is amazingly holistic in it's approach. It looks at the mind and the body as an inseparable partnership and believes that the best cures are the ones that go to the root cause of the problem. Llfe-style advice, good diet, herbal remedies and detox procedures form the key methods an Ayurvedic expert will treat you.

Through the centre we are keen to spread more information about Ayurveda. We are keen to do more than just provide pampering massages and see how you can fine tune your body with a blend of herbal medicines, diet, yoga and meditation.

The venue is located quite near West Kensington tube station as well as Olympia tube station. It is on the first and second floors of 41A Northend Road (which used to be an Ebenezer Chapel, circa 200 years ago!).

Health and Vitality Centre is the joint venture of Madhavbaug India (www.madhavbaug.org) which is one of the largest providers of Ayurvedic care in western India, running more than 150 centres and 2 inpatient hospitals in and around Mumbai. Their specialty is prevention of ischaemic heart disease and rehab after heart attacks. They look after more than 10,000 clients each week in India using exclusive Ayurvedic methods of treatment. Our long term goal is to make Ayurveda main-stream medicine.

Our therapists at the Health and Vitality Centre have a background in western system of massage but have been trained in Ayurvedic massage systems. Thus we deliver the core ethos of of Ayurveda and tit's therapies such as massage in a manner that blends the best of east and west.

The venue was close to Olympia train station, in a run down building. The staff were pleasant and the therapist was excellent, though I was not too keen on the steam treatment, it involved standing up in a shower in a cramped room, not too sure about the hygiene as there was hair in the shower left over from the last person.

A very enjoyable Ayurvedic massage given by the very professional Juliette
followed by a 15 minute steam. Dr Savant was also very accommodating in rebooking my appointment. I will be re-booking a further appointment.

Ambience and location was not great but the massage was dreamy! Lovely hot oil and full body massage. I had the same 2 songs playing on repeat though which was annoying and distracting. Defnitely not impressed with the "steam experience" which involved standing in a grotty shower with a steam function. Massage was nice though!

Had a great experience at the Health and Vitality Centre in Kensington. The staff were very helpful & explained what the treatments were about and how they worked. Definitely left there feeling much better and more revitalised- recommended.

I really enjoyed the massage and steam experience. I felt great afterwards and would recommend it. My only complaint was that I rang the bell for ages and couldn't get in. I will be going for another one soon to use the £5 voucher I got off the next treatment.

I arrived at the venue and there was no receptionist. The Venue is ok, although it would do with some improvements. I did not know what to expect but the therapist talked me through and I enjoyed the experience.

I did enjoy the experience but was expecting a massage and it was more of a good body rub with lots of oil. I did feel very relaxed when the session finished. I also had a 10 minute steam treatment. Didn't know what to expect but I simply sat in a shower cubicle with steam blowing in. This too was ok. Would have liked a towel, some conditioner for my hair and body moisturiser for after showering and perhaps a hairdryer as I had to leave the premises with wet hair. Reasonable value for money and I would go again for this price however would take toiletries and towels!

It would have been better if the environemnt was a bit more professional. Although the therapist do a good job, one still expects nice fresh dry towel, mirror, clean changing room etc.

The therapists know what they are doing however the environment and supplied service could be better. For example there was no hair drier or appriopriate mirror neither a great environment to get changed after the steam room.

I was little disappointed on arrival as I rushed to get there before my 3pm appointment, as fearful of being late and loosing out on my designated time as stipulated in their terms and conditions, however, I was kept waiting for 15mins and still the therapist gave me 55mins. I also had to complain that the towel given to me, to wrap myself in, was clearly dirty and I had to ask for the therapist to change it. She then came in with a dark brown towel, which was warm, however, I couldn't tell whether it was clean or dirty. The massage itself was enjoyable and the therapist identified areas where I had tension. Following treatment, the therapist did not know I was booked in for a steam and this resulted in me having to sit and wait an additional 10mins before I could go into the steam room. By this time I was getting frustrated as I expected my 90 mins to flow and even though I had to wait I would've felt more comfortable if there was a designated area for the purpose of moving through the stages of your treatment.

A nice secluded place off the busy main street
easy enough to find
very friendly welcoming staff
very holistic which is nice

the steam is inside the shower which I was a bit surprised at 9 was expecting a separate steam room) but now I know it's no issue

I think the people are lovely and do a good job; would definitely go again

The massage was really relaxing however most masseurs cover your chest with a towel when massaging a woman but this one didn't so my chest was on show and she even massaged it. I didnt find this uncomfortable, but others might.

The steam room was just a shower cubicle which can emit steam, however there was a radio in the shower which I got to listen to.

The place did not really have a good ambience, but overall the massage was ok, it was not the best I have had as I prefer Thai massages and this was my first Ayurvedic massage. She did use a lot of oil and I had to ensure I wiped this off, I did not opt for the Steam experience.
I was told before hand that I would be filling in a questionnaire so that they could find out about the Ayurvedic Dosha, but this seemed to be missed from the booking.

The massage was outstanding, but the ambience left a lot to be desired. My friend and I waited alone in a waiting room for about 15 minutes before the therapist arrived. The 'steam' part of the treatment was just sitting in a specially crafted shower. The towels were not very clean and I had to use the same towel for the shower as was used during my massage. There are also no hair dryers, so you must bring your own!

I had an Ayurvedic massage and steam experience at this venue. The venue is not at all luxurious and has a temporary office feeling. The massage itself was very good, but the steam experience afterwards was odd - I sat in a shower with a steam machine in the corner. There also was an ayurvedic 'consultation' which really was just a selling opportunity for further treatments.

I visited HVC last Friday after a long week at work and I left there feeling totally relaxed and lovely!

Firstly, the place itself is only a few minutes walk from West Ken tube (I don't know why others are saying differently) and very easy to find. The centre is not at all plush and not at all spa like so if you are expecting an oasis of tranquility with candles, buddhas and incense, forget it! It is very basic and there are no touches of luxury anywhere.

I arrived for my treatments (aryurvedic massage and steam treatment) early and sat in the waiting area, my therapist came out and took me through to the treatment room, which was very large but not at all plush. I like hard, deep massages and this was not one of those but after 10 minutes I began to feel the calming effects of the massage. The massage uses long, light, continious strokes with a warm, thick oil and i almost felt like the therapist was flushing toxins out in my body because she was stroking downwards and away. After massaging my back, arms and legs, i turned over for the therapist to massage my front and the massage on my stomach was the most bizarre feeling ever - it felt like she was massaging my internal organs and my tummy started to rumble! The massage (which lasted a full hour) was the most relaxing masages of my life - I still cannot figure out how such a light stroke massage could have made me that relaxed.

After the massage, I was told to put the supplied dressing gown on and was led into the bathroom where there was a large shower cubicle that doubled up as a little steam room. The tempature went up to 48 degrees and I was in there for 10 mniutes so it was very hot. I could have had a shower afterwards but to be honest, the steam was enough. I got out, dried myself down and went back to the massage room where there was a glass of water waiting for me and i got dressed and left feeling wonderful.

I expected to sleep well that night but strangely I was relaxed but not at all tired. When I washed my hair the next morning it was so shiny and felt wonderful and my skin had a very rested look to it.

I will be going again, the therapist was amazing, the treatment was wonderful and I felt fantastic.

I arrived early. Therapist was friendly and I had my treatment started immediately. First time I had significant amount of oil applied and the steam experience was good. It was a relaxing experience. One downside is a long walk (about 2 bus-stops away) from West Kensington tube station.
