SE1guy is accurate here - I joined Fitness First in May 2014 having been told the whole gym was being refubished in June 2014 and made it clear I was only joining due to the refurbishment as what they currently had did not meet my needs for weight training. The refurbishment apparently included a doubling in size of weights equipment and area, expansion of cardio area and completely new changing rooms and showers. Come end of June I asked reception what was happening with the refurbishment - they said it has been postponed and this keeps happening every month. I

I demanded to cancel based on being mislead but Fitness First denied I was told the refurbishment was happening in June! They have now tried to lock me into the 12 month contract and I am currently exploring options to take them on. Potential members be warned, do NOT listen to the hpe about the refurbishment and note the gym in it's current state is tatty, the changing rooms and showers are horrible and they do not have adequate resitance machines and benches in the weights area. The cardio area is not very big. This is NOT worth what they currently charge (£80 if you do not have good corporate deals).

Been a member for the last 5 months. Extremely disappointed. Absolutely no value for money. A total rip off. One machine per exercise, impossible to use as overcrowded. I was told they were going to renovate but 5 months later still no sign. No water fountains in the changing rooms and none in the swimming/leisure area and the very few ones available are not chilled. I did complain but they did nothing. Local management ignored my complaint and the head office never got back when I tried to escalate. Looking forward to finishing my contract. Don't be fooled as I was when I decided to ignore all the negative reviews I saw online. It's only your money that they want and once you have signed the contract ....

Two weeks ago for the first time someone from sales called me asking about renewal and noticing my 13months long complaint. I explained I would only renew if water fountains were installed in the changing room and/or wet area (I normally purchase a 1 year membership paid in advance). I just got a call back from sales (21/08/14) saying that the water fountains would be installed once they start renovating. He also acknowledged that renovation should have happened more than a year ago and they still do not know when it is going to happen, hence still no water but they want my money. It is also interesting that they are increasing the fees but still provide the same 'service'. This is a clear example of how management at FF Cottons works. I have visited other FF in London and they have water and they are also cheaper. Overcrowding is still a problem and the manager there just does not care. In one of my Tweets he replied by saying he was sorry if I felt that there were not enough water fountains. In a following tweet when I posted a picture showing some mould around one of the water fountain tabs, he did not even bother answering. You'd expect they would consider the fact that most of their members are professional people... In my opinion FF Cottons is definitely not value for money but what is worse is that they have no customers' skills and management is .....

I purchased these vouchers as an incentive to join the gym as fitness first is available all over london.
disappointing....could not even get my foot in the door! difficult to arrange a time to come in to use the gym and as a results voucher wasted.
it seemed none of the staff knew about the voucher and a similar voucher was available on the fitness first website for free!
disappointing both ends....tut tut fitness first and wahanda!
