When I first moved to Aberdeen a few months ago, this salon came to my attention through a Groupon deal. Before going, I had actually purchased two vouchers, one through Groupon and another half off one. I wish I wouldn't have had to go back a second time!

The salon itself is tiny and cramped, and very basic. My first appointment was for a mani/pedi with a friend... which was a pretty paltry service. Basically, they just cut, filed, and painted the nails, with absolutely none of the frills or pampering one expects when going to a salon for this service. I can paint my nails at home myself! And the end result was not very impressive either, you could clearly see brush strokes and uneven coating.

The second time I went back, I didn't have very high expectations, and I was even more disappointed. This time I went in for a massage, and my first impressions of the massage room were that it was even more cramped, and very cheap looking. There wasn't even a cover or towel or something to go over the face pillow, so hopefully they at least clean it often! I told the lady where I had a couple sore spots, and I made sure to emphasize that I preferred a deep massage. When she first started, her hands were like limp noodles moving on my back. Absolutely zero pressure. I asked her to please dig in more, and for the next little while she increased the pressure ever so slightly. Still, it was like getting a skin massage, with no pressure actually into the muscles at all. For the third time, I asked her to apply more pressure (my massage was almost half over at this point), and she finally managed to work her hands in a bit past the surface. At the end I didn't feel like she'd helped to relax any of my sore muscles, or knots. Honestly, I've had better massages from complete non-professionals, and I wonder what - if any - training their 'massage therapist' has actually had.

There are heaps of salons in Aberdeen, and I severely wish I had checked things out a bit more before purchasing two separate vouchers to this place. It's worth paying extra for somewhere that knows what they're doing!
