Whilst planning a trip to Liverpool we researched a number of spa options and concluded that the Chill Out Spa pretty much ticked all the boxes. There were 6 of us and we all have experience of spa days so we know what we like. What was immediately apparent from the moment we stepped into the place is that the management are very much in control. Very high standards of courtesy and professionalism but also a very relaxed atmosphere. Treatments were absolutely amazing and i don't use that word lightly. Surroundings were nothing like we had experienced previously and the Courtyard Cafe area was a real bonus, particularly as the weather was stunning that day. Food was limited in choice but excellent value. Would have liked a cappucino after lunch but the coffee machine wasn't working. At the end of the day the receptionist went out of her way to arrange our transport back into the city. Top marks to Chill out spa. Even your best reviews don't do you justice. We'll be back but there will be 12 of us next time!!!!!

I went to the Spa in January 2013 with 4 friends, having booked the full day treatments back in August/September 2012.
4 of us selected the Detox ritual full day treatment and one the signature relaxation package. We were told to arrive at 9am which we did think was a little early but as we were getting the full day treatment couldn't complain too much.
On arrival we were ushered into the coffee area were we had a complementary warm drink and filled in a questionnaire on our health and the usual bumpf.
After about half an hour we were taking up to a changing area and told to change into our costumes and make our way down to the spa. The changing rooms are communal although there is a shower and toilet in which some of us preferred to use to change. (The shower had no door on and is simply set to the side. This in its self is not a problem but the main changing room doors (both changing rooms, we checked the other) do not have locks and so if I was in there alone I wouldn't exactly feel comfortable that anyone could just walk in whilst I was in the shower/changing in the communal area.
We were then shown around the facilities up stairs (were the changing rooms are) before being taken to the hot tub.
The room was warm and the lighting was lovely, although it may be a little dark for some, I found the purple and blue lights and candles a really nice feature. We were in there for 30 minutes and the staff brought us water. It does get really warm in there but it was enjoyable. However, towards the final ten minutes in there, one of the back rests come away and exposed mold and mildew behind it and on it, floating around in the pool. We weren't very impressed by this, as if it apparently comes off so easily, then surely they could be removed to be cleaned? We got out and started to dry off, one of my friends opting to have a quick shower to wash away the chlorine, on going over to the shower she noticed that there was also quite a lot of mildew on the shower head and so opted to use the showers in the changing rooms instead. I appreciate that the hot tub room is warm and damp and so mildew would thrive in there, but I thought it could have been a lot cleaner for this very reason and it looked as though the shower had not been cleaned in months.
We went on up to the Tranquility room to await our treatments and while the room is large, spacious and has day beds to rest and chill, there was no music, no scents, no ambiance and was quite cool until we fathomed out the heating system! There is the option to have a water in there but considering the cost of our treatments was £150 each, I do think coffees and teas should also be available in this room at no extra charge (if you want drinks, you have to go back down stairs to the cafe. We waited for quite some time (no clocks and closed blinds make it a little difficult to judge the time!) before 2 of us were taken for our treatments. (facial and massage and body wrap and massage) the remaining 3 of us waited in there for around an hour before a member of staff took us down to get our nails painted, we were then taken back up to the tranquility room for more waiting around for the other 2 girls to finish their treatments.
We then went down for our lunch which was a selection of jacket potatoes, salads or wraps but it was nice and was apart of our package.
We then went back up to the Tranquility area and waited for about half an hour (after spending close to 2 hours in there prior to lunch, it was just beginning to feel like a waiting room, still no music, scents or ambiance!)
We then had our treatments and the other 2 girls had their manicures.
The algae wrap and massage was absolutely fantastic. Staff are discreet and accommodating and advise you beforehand what they will be doing so if there is anything that you don't feel comfortable with they can amend the treatment slightly for you.
After the algae wrap was applied, I then enjoyed a head, neck and shoulder massage which was absolutely amazing and I would pay for that again and again!
I then washed off the algae wrap in the shower which was in the room. (with no body puffer etc it was a little difficult!) before having my full body massage. That too was absolutely fantastic and I was asked that the pressure applied was ok and that again I was comfortable and didn't require parts of my body to remain covered.
The treatments were wonderful, absolutely amazing and my friend who had the signature relaxation package said that it was the best massage that she has ever had (and she has enjoyed spa days both here, abroad and on cruises)
After the treatment had finished I was told to take as long as I needed to get ready and to take it easy for the rest of the day and drink plenty of fluids.
After changing back into the robe I headed to the tranquility room to meet with the other girls and we then got ready to leave.
Negatives:
The place was a little cold when we arrived in the morning, as though it had not yet heated up! Complimentary drinks should be served through out the day, especially as there is so much waiting around, the Tranquility room could be far better, it did just seem like a glorified waiting area by the end of the day and the room could be far better served with music and candles or just some scent to create an atmosphere, it did feel a little flat and having spent most of our day in there that was a little disappointing, we thought we would have had the same treatments at the same time and no justification was provided as to why we were done separately at different times. The changing rooms need to have locks or doors placed on the showers, the robe and towels seemed a little tired although they were clean and the final negative would be the cleanliness of the shower and hot tub in the hot tub room, that is not something I was at all impressed with and I have raised this with the staff.
Positives:
staff are lovely, the wrap and massage were absolutely fantastic and I would certainly recommend having those.
I probably wouldn't go again, or if I did I would pick specific treatments so I would not be expected to be waiting around.
Tips: take some shower gel, a body puff (to get off the algae wrap in the shower!) and a book/iPod for in the Tranquility room as you will spend most of your day in there!

Lovely peacefull setting, went for a day with the my two housemates as a Birthday present for one of them. We had a Wahanda voucher and the staff still treat us like full paying customers, sometimes I find places can be a bit funny with you. The treatments were amazing, loved the seaweed wrap that we had and the back, neck and shoulder massage I recieved was one of the best I've had. Will definately be coming again!!

Folks the place is beautiful and spotless and kept clean all day. The treatments and staff are super lovely .. however, you are told to arrive at 9:15 (harsh!!) and then told to relax for an hour at least .. with a coffee .. no fruit or fruit juice no nibbles nothing.. we had to hunt for sugar and fruit tea as there was none in the room further more all the magazines where old .. at least 5 months old. There are no normal spa facilities like pool or steam room so its really boring between treatments and you can only use the hot tob at the allotted time. Saying that the treatments are great - its an upmarket beauty salon - I would not call it a spa. The lovely lunch was a tuna wrap .. a very thin one with water .. not even a fruit salad. I guess it just did not come up to the standards of other day spas we have been to where you are spolt and there is more to do than relax with 5 month old Chat magazine.

From the moment we arrived at the Chill Out Spa we were treated like Royalty, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The treatments were fabulous - we had the Wahanda package, which included facial, full body massage, manicure, pedicure, eye brow shape & tint and eyelash tint. The relaxation lounge had just the right ambiance with the water feature, piped "chill out" music and big chairs that you just sink into ....... and drinks whenever you wanted them. We could happily have fallen asleep we were so chilled! A big thank you to all the staff for making our day out so special, we will definitely be going back. The chocolates and drinks while we were in the jacuzzi was a lovely touch. Wendy and Trina
