Central YMCA Club

The club is very spacious and well equipped. You will find the facilities to make your workout effective and fun.

Membership includes the provision of personal programmes as often as you like, the use of a range of cardiovascular machines, resistance stations and a fully equipped free-weights room. Personal trainers are available at all times to assist you in achieving your goals.

Choose from over 110 of London's best exercise classes each week. Classes last for 45 minutes and are spread throughout our opening times from early in the morning to late at night, 7 days a week.

We are proud to say that even in the heart of central London our club boasts a fabulous 25m heated indoor swimming pool. With lanes set aside for your particular ability it's perfect for a hassle-free and effective workout.

We offer a full range of water-based activities such as water aerobics and learn to swim classes that stretch from beginners to those wishing to perfect their technique. Canoeing and scuba diving are examples of more unusual pool pursuits here at Central YMCA.

Holistic therapies are used to help balance the mind and body, and to reduce stress. Central YMCA are pleased to offer the services of leading professionals specialising in a range of Holistic Therapies.

YMCA is probably the largest gym in London with again, probably the largest swimming pool in central London I have ever seen (and trust me I have been to lots of gyms in central London). The reception is on the ground floor and when I arrived was a bit crowded with the staff a bit 'all over the place' in a bad way but despite this you could sense they were just trying their best. From the reception area you can see to one side, through glass a small cafe and further the massive swimming pool where sauna and steam room are also located. Passing the barriers at the reception and getting my towel for which I paid £1.00 (as a non member with reduced day pass I got from 'pay as you go gym') I descended two floors underground to reach the massive changing areas where lockers function on returnable £1 coins. Lots of mirrors everywhere with hair driers and even hair straighteners but no plastic bags to put your dry swim suit (there is a small drying machine though). This gym is centred around a large open space where you can play badminton/volleyball etc and having to one side a 'heavy area for the boys' and to the other side the machines targetting all kind of muscles and some running machines, plus separate glass rooms for cycling etc where classes are being held.

On the first floor there are more running machines/cross trainers etc and to one side a matt/ball area probably designed for ladies or those into yoga.

The gym is simply massive and could have been perfect but due to the location close to Tottenham Court road you see some characters that probably would give you thrills if you were to meet them on the streets of Soho.

The club has been through a fantastic transformation and the treatment area is lovely. All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the place really has a lovely atomosphere. Rachel is the beauty therapist - I had a fab manicure with great attention to detail. As you would expect the classes are taught by extremely qualified and professional instructors. Value for money, great atomosphere and wow what an amazing place that you would never expect behind small doors!!
