Excellent massages and service but this takes place in the context of a busy family friendly hotel so the atmosphere isn't particularly relaxing, the food was great but the cleanliness/appearance of the steam room and changing rooms could definitely do with an upgrade.

Had an absolutely lovely stay at The Oxford Hotel.
Staff was very welcoming and they even changed the time for our treatments because we happened to be a little late. Because we booked a squash court for next morning they let us check-out later on without any extra costs even though the hotel was fully booked on that day.
Superb holiday! highly recommended. Food (dinner and breakfast) were also great!

excellent spa break. enjoyed every minute of the massage and facial. hotel great too. would definitely go again. only problem was that it was difficult to find a slot for the treatments as they get very booked up so if you book last minute there is no choice of times

Where do I begin!!
My daughter and I had the misfortune of attending The Oxford Hotel spa on Saturday last for her birthday and what a disaster it turned out to be.
On arrival at the spa reception we were informed that one of the beauticians was unavailable and another finished at 3pm which meant that our two hour treatments would now have to be cut to one hour. When we expressed our disappointment we were told that a member of staff had tried to call us and when I checked my phone I had missed a call 8 minutes before we arrived. We were not impressed but decided to settle for the one treatment but expressed that we would both like to be together (in the same room) whilst having our treatment. I might say that the young man who dealt with us was most professional but not once did we receive an apology or explanation from the so called Spa Manager Peter who remained in his office.
Following a workout we decided to visit the steam room which we found to be uncomfortably compact!!! We then proceeded to the pool area where there were only 4 loungers which were occupied so we had to sit on the steps of the pool. On entering the pool we found the water to be very cloudy and not at all clean. At this point we decided to have our lunch and look forward to our treatment.
On arrival at the spa we were asked to choose our food from the lunch menu and asked where we would like to sit - we suggested the bar area. When ready we sat in the bar area for several minutes and finally a member of the spa team who was walking past told us that we needed to let the staff in the coffee shop on the ground floor know that we were ready but we hadn't told this on arrival. We decided to sit ourselves down in the coffee shop area to make it easier for the staff to find us and decided to have a glass of wine whilst we waited.
We spoke with the waiter informed us that this wasn't possible because the bar was closed and wouldn't open until 4pm - not helpful. Again disappointed, we sat back and awaited for our lunch whilst taking in the busy hustle and bustle of a hotel reception/eating area. Our food arrived and we settlemed back to enjoy our food but no such luck as we were approached by a large dog (greyhound) who was eyeing up our food. We were a little shocked to say the least a dog roaming around a hotel reception area whilst people are eating and young children wandering around, not what you would expect to find in a so called 4* hotel but by this time we were not surprised. You seem to running a very laid back establishment.
So far the day hadn't lived up to our expectations at all so following lunch we returned to the spa in eager anticipation of a relaxing treatment. We were met by two very pleasant young ladies who proceeded to guide us through to the beauty room. Unfortunately my daughter was led one way and myself another. I asked the therapist why we weren't together and she said I quote "oh there was no note on your records to say that you wanted to be together". My daughter had a similar conversation with her therapist at which point my daughter, came into my room looking very upset and said she'd had enough the day was totally spoilt for her and she wanted to go. I felt very upset for her but had to agree that from start to finish our special day had been ruined.
At this point the therapist directed me to the spa reception where she was going to process my refund. She informed me that the elusive Spa Manager, Peter Cullery had gone to the main reception to acquire an 'over-ride' card in order to process my refund. Eventually he returned, asked for my card and performed the refund. At no point was I offered an explanation or offered an apology. The man just didn't seem to care what happened either way.
On leaving I was informed by another member of your staff that this sort of thing happens on a regular basis and on checking the reviews on Tripadvisor it would appear she is correct.
I am not the sort of person who complains easily but my daughter and I had been looking forward to our day together and we were bitterly disappointed. The manager there clearly doesn't care about the service offered and clearly makes no attempt to improve the situation and ultimately this can only reflect badly on your hotel as a whole. I certainly won't be recommending any of my family, friends or colleagues use these spa facilities until things improve.

Overall my friend and I had a good experience. It is more of a business hotel than a place for leisure. The beauty therapist was both friendly and professional and I really enjoyed both of the treatments. The lunch was fine, but nothing to write home about. I think the package was good value for money.

I booked this treat for my daughter's 21st birthday. The reception staff were really slow and you had to wait quite a while in order to get seen and it wasn't even busy. The room was only provided with one towel so we had to ring for another, bearing in mind you were aware that 2 people were in this room. The toilet did not flush properly and we reported it before we went to dinner in the evening and got told it would be fixed, it wasn't. The food that came with the inclusive dinner was very limited and could have been a lot better. My dessert of raspberry mouse was really poor and more like jelly. The lady that conducted the massage talked endlessly about her divorced mother, 7 brothers and sisters, her own child. This is not what you pay for, it is suppose to be relaxing and to get away from your everyday stresses, not listen to someone else's. The small pool had three children constantly jumping into it, splashing other guest, so we had to leave the pool. All in all it cost me £200 for a one night stay and treatment and was extremely poor value and would not recommend it to anyone. I would welcome someone contacting me to discuss further.

This was an awful experience and I felt overcharged. A hotel has felt that just because it has a grimy and small swimming pool it can call itself a spa - but this is not so. How can you relax by the pool side (water did not at all seem clean!!) when all you have is two wooden garden chairs which are already occupied. I had to beg for an armchair to be brought in so I could sit somewhere. Staff at reception was disorganised. People whose treatments had to be cancelled were notified half an hour before their arrival (from Hemel Hempstead), my own treatments had been scheduled for 3:00 pm. On Sunday I received an e-mail confirming my treatments would start at 10:00 am. So I nearly killed myself shooting down the motorway only to find out that the treatments were at 3:00 pm. This left me hanging around for several hours. The steam room was disgusting as it smelled of broccoli and the sauna was tiny. It was freezing cold and when we asked for the heating to be turned up the staff said the heating was "going up and down". In the ladies' changing room the toilets bowls featured brown skidmarks and no-one was there all day long to clean the place. Towels left behind by departing guests were left in the corner in a damp pile - it wasn't pleasant! There was a sheet of paper in the ladies' changing room basically for the staff to sign off after every check. This was left blank all day. At 5:30 a member of staff came to the door of the changing room (but no further, clearly just to check that the changing room was still there), signed off the entire sheet with her initials (LH) and departed again. I had booked an additional facial and Alex had confirmed it would cost £25.00 only for me to be told then that it was £30.00.I paid £95 all in all and wish I hadn't. It was a dirty and cold experience and I would never ever come again. The only saving grace was the beautician who tried very hard but frankly there was so much wrong that she on her own was fighting a losing battle.

We had to spend literally hours and hours speaking to person after person, on the phone to arrange our complimentary treatments, which we were initially told we could not have as the Spa rooms were fully booked. This is actually true as I over heard the staff saying they are fully booked for over six weeks. It was only on the third occation that I contacted Last Minute they pulled there fingers out and made the arrangements. The Hotel Manager rang me and said that by way of apology for my problems he would 'ensure that from the moment of our arrival we had exeplary treatment'. We did not, no up grade, no bottle of wine or flowers in the room, not even a note of apology. In fact the room was small and scruffy and we had to ask for our bedding to be changed as they were stained with what looked like blood.

A quick search on the internet revealed a good dozen of spa packages being offered by various hotels and resorts. We found one offered by Oxford Hotel and thought it would be a nice weekend away for us from home. The Spa Package included a 3 course dinner, Vitamin Glow Facial, Aromatherapy massage and 2 night stay. This was perfect for my other half and I.

The room was small and cosy, with an attached bathroom with shower and bath tub. The basic amenities – shampoo, shower gel and body lotion were provided in the bathroom. I needed a disposable shaver and room services quickly provided me with one when requested. There was a hair dryer and trouser press provided too. There is no fridge in the room so if you want chilled drinks, you have to go to their bar at the reception to get it. Unlike some hotels around UK, the temperature can be adjusted to your own liking. The room was really cold when we first entered and the thermostat did well to warm up the room.

I felt that the 3 course dinner met expectations. There was a good variety of choices available. Of particular note was the chicken Roulade and the Guinea Fowl which was really good. The preparation was very complicated and the presentation impressed us. Initially we read many online reviews warning us about the portions, which we prepared ourselves for. However at the end of the dinner, my other half and I agreed that we were fully stuffed contrary to what was described. My guess is that the menu was updated as of January 2014, which probably had bigger portions. One of the comments I have on the dinner is that the menu showed an extensive selection but a few of the options required an add on. For example, the steak required an addition of £6.95 which basically meant that we had to pay extra on top of the dinner which was already included in the package. This was a little annoying as that meant we had to fork out more money. Another comment I have is that they could be a little understaffed as I felt that not enough attention was paid and at times we could not find any waiter for additional requests like water or anything else. When one of the waiters was serving us, his phone rang and it turned out that he was the duty room service personnel. That meant that he was juggling as both a waiter and a room service personnel. Breakfast is served in the same restaurant in the morning. There is a decent variety of continental food – cheese, bread, ham, mushrooms, scrambled and fried eggs, sausages, black pudding, oats, cereal and fruit. One of the things which ran out really quickly was the ham which we left us a little disappointed because the kitchen runs out of it and as a result the ham platter is not topped up.

We had full access to the facilities, however some of them required booking in advanced. The gym and the pool were available but the pool was a little small. Had there been a good 5-6 persons it would have already looked crowded. The squash courts also need to be booked in advanced as many non-hotel guests had already booked it for their own use. The facilities are not exclusive to just hotel guests.

This hotel is not to be mistaken with the Royal Oxford Hotel which is in the city centre. The Oxford Hotel is at Godstow road which is about 10min away by taxi from the Oxford train station, or about 15-20min away from the city centre by bus. Bus number 6 takes you to the city centre at the cost of £2 per person single trip, or £3.20 return trip. The bus comes at 15min intervals on weekdays and 30min intervals on Sundays.

One of the improvements we thought could have been made is the spa treatments. Although we had booked the hotel package 2 months in advanced, there were already limited timeslots for the spa treatment for the period we were going to be there for. The only timeslots given were in fact not within the period we were staying there for. After emailing the manager, we could settle for the only evening time slot which was available once we arrived there. The booking of spa treatments should be reserved for guests who have booked spa packages as part of the hotel stay. Imagine paying for a spa package only to be turned away by the reservation hotline that the spa timeslots are all full. I’m not sure how the rest of the guests who paid spa packages after I had would have made spa treatment reservations. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that there was a mistake for our reservation for the spa. We had both the vitamin glow facial and aromatherapy message booked, but apparently what was booked in their system was my other half doing the aromatherapy and myself the facial, which was not what I had booked. In the package offer, both the massage and facial was part of the package and not for us to choose between the 2. As we only had one hour booked, we both did the massage and had to find another timeslot for the facial. In the end, the only timeslot left was after we had to check out, which spoilt the experience a little as we expected to be able to do everything within the time frame we were at the hotel.

Another improvement, although minor is the newspapers that were offered at the reception during check in. During check in we were asked if we wanted newspapers. We were given a selection to choose from and we chose what we wanted. On the day of check out, we received an invoice from under the door charging us for the newspapers! I approached the reception and only then did I know that the newspapers were chargeable. If I had known this, I wouldn’t even have requested for the papers. I feel that all costs should be made clear to the customer instead of receiving a rude shock for a bill that we are not aware of. The cost for 2 newspapers is not high, so I paid for it when we left. If it was something that was more expensive, then I would certainly have been shocked on being charged for something I didn’t ask for.

An overall good stay but its policy needs some fine tuning to improve certain services and standards of what other similar hotels are providing. Other than that we had a good stay.

Had a hair cut which I can't find in the drop down treatment option! Great welcome by Steph- a fab Scottish lady who was really friendly and bubbly. Great head massage when she washed my hair in a vibrating chair! Lovely latte coffee served too . Only complaint- quickest hair cut I've ever had so hoping the style hasn't suffered... Seems ok but will see later today/ tomorrow who it sits
