I feel sorry for the beauty staff, they are excellent and very professional. Hotel is dirty, food is dreadful and poorly presented and extortionate. £3.50 for a small coffee, coke served with no ice or lemon, room temperature orange juice straight from a carton. Chicken over cooked, vegetables so over cooked are slimy. Desserts served with no offer of cream, Mr Kipling do better Bakewell tarts . Showers are too small. Steam room not working. Steps into pool loose and unsafe. Bulldoze the place and start again. Receptionist obviously didn't care when I complained because I'd booked a special deal!

So disappointed. One of the worst 'spa' days ever. Treatments were supposed to last an hour and only lasted just over half an hour, place was discustingly dirty. Especially the changing rooms which was coverd in soiled tissues and dirty towels. The 'spa' facilities are actually a small swimming pool that is open to the public (screaming children, not relaxing and what you would expect from a spa) box room sauna that fits 2 people (also open to general public) and a steam room we didn't dare enter as we could see the mould on the tiles from the glass door!! Had to walk through a dirty and horrible smelling hotel to have lunch in our robes which was very embarrassing especially when my sister and I were wolf. whistlesd at by some work men!! Then once we got to the resturant we were told we went allowed to sit in the dining area and instead were shoved on a sofa in the entrance lobby eating off of our laps! The whole day was an absolute joke, we managed to laugh about it but there are so many things wrong with this pretend spa day i have only mentioned a few. Do not go here!!!

We had a rocky start due to last minute.com not sending through all the details to the hotel. But Will on reception was amazing and so professional and helped us sort it all out. We had treatments booked and rather than 1hr of 1 treatment we could have 2 30mins treatments. All 4 of us loved it with a combo of facials, back massages and pedicures between us all. The spa was more of a gym/swimming pool with a small suana and steam room but were adequate for our needs. We also had a 3 course meal in the evening that was stunning and the breakfast in the morning didn't disappoint. Would recommend it. Perfect for our girlie break.

I'd originally wanted to book the sister hotel (nearer to home) but was told it was fully booked, instead I was offered The Palace which was a little more expensive but as it was for a special occasion I didn't mind. The staff member (Lorna) was very helpful and booked us in at The Palace. However when we arrived at 9am following an hour's drive we were told they had no record of our booking. We were supposed to have got a spa package each (2 full length treatments plus robes, towels and lunch). There were two staff members on duty who, to their credit, were apologetic and helpful in trying to fit something in for us. As they were busy arranging an alternative I called Lorna at the sister hotel to explain the situation. I received no apology for her mistake which I was not impressed with considering as it turns out she is the manager of both locations. A staff member came into the waiting room to inform us she could give us mini versions of the treatments we had booked giving us a total of 40mins each. In the circumstances my friend and I were grateful to the staff for offering us something but still very disappointed that our day of luxury would be cut so short. The treatments were ok but far from what I was expecting. My mini pedicure consisted of a short foot scrub, a bit of moisturise and wearing warming slippers. No file and polish as I would have expected. The beautician also left the room twice for quite a while so my 40 minutes was more like 20-25. However, I was given the treatments and a very good discount so have no problem with that really.

When I'd finished I had to ask for a robe (not offered) and got into my swimsuit. I then went to the relaxation room to swap with my friend who would then be getting her treatments (again, different to what we'd booked as we wanted to spend the day together not having treatments one after the other). The room had three loungers, a chair and a chaise longue. All were occupied with women waiting for treatments. The waiting room was also full. I found this odd as by now we'd only seen 4 staff members so couldn't imagine how they would give everyone treatments. It turned out they could possibly. I got talking to some of the women (as the relaxation room is very boring, no magazines or soft music playing) and they told me they were all booked in for 10am. It got to 40.40am and some of the women still hadn't been called into treatment rooms. Very poor organisation. There was also a hen party of 25 waiting so who knows how long they were waiting with no explanation.

After getting bored in the relaxation room I ventured back to reception to ask where the toilets were. I was shown to a tiny, dirty loo round the back of reception. Hardly of "luxury spa" standard. Then I thought I'd go in the pool, found the changing room myself (no tour or directions given) but found it had a coded lock on it so went back to reception to ask for the code. THEN discovered I needed £1 for a locker so once again back to reception for a £1 coin (swapped for a handful of change).

The changing rooms were run down, cold and could do with a deep clean. The pool was warm but the space around it for relaxing is laughable. Two sunloungers were squeezed in at one end toe to toe along the pool edge! We didn't try the steam room or sauna as I am pregnant and shouldn't use them.

In conclusion I really think the advertised prices are far too high for what is a pretty run down spa. I got the feeling the management just book too many people in to get their money and don't really care about customer service. Staff members had a tough job trying to keep all guests happy but remained as helpful as they could in the circumstances.

Other things to improve are:
- No questionnaire for health risks taken (particularly important for me being pregnant! I had to inform them myself to make sure products were safe)
- No spoons for tea and coffee
- general cleanliness
- relaxation room next to loud slamming door of changing room. No calming music or magazines
- no towels provided. Robes only given on request but a bit tatty. My friend's had no belt.
- no lunch option offered
- tiny basic showers
- no tour or explanation of facilities given
- rooms were bland. A lick of paint, nice wallpaper and décor would make a big difference.
- loud chatting in corridors not great when you're having treatments. Staff could be quieter when moving around.

We got a bargain with this deal. Definitely worth what we paid, but I think some people that had paid a lot more were a bit disappointed.

Beautician was nice and efficient. Treatment went well. However the fumes coming from the spray were very strong and irritated my throat. The beautician remarked it was affecting her and said it was not normally like that. I was not given any aftercare advice about how to care for my tan. I have had a spray tan before but not this same brand and not all are the same. However happy with outcome of tan, nice colour.

A wonderful stay at the Buxton palace for my stepmums birthday and a late Mother's Day present. All the staff were so friendly and were happy to do anything for you. The gym could do with a little tlc but other than that the decor was lovely. We really enjoyed the three course meal and the buffet breakfast had lots of choice

Many thanks for everyone who made our stay wonderful

Swimming pool was filthy, gym tiny and smelly, one bloke was skipping in the corridor. Beautiful faded splendour of hotel that needs some TLC. Staff were excellent though as was the food

The hotel was really nice and the room was lovely and big, spacious and clean. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. And I don't think I could have asked for better food. The only thing that I thought could have been better was the massage, which felt a bit amateurish (not firm enough!). But the facial and head massage was good.

Having just returned from the Palace Hotel, Buxton, I can only say I was very disappointed with our stay, I will not be recommending this hotel and will make sure friends stay away. The whole experience has been poor from start to finish. Having booked the break as a birthday treat from my boyfriend, it's a good job he realises that I love him, because judging by our stay he may think I can't stand him!
It started with my first call to confirm booking (booked through last minute. com). I had booked 2 day spa break, you only had us booked in for one night, I got the impression the lady I spoke to really didn't care. I was told to contact last minute.com, I did and well they could not be more helpful, they had confirmation from yourselves for two nights. They spoke to Laura who confirmed 2 nights and then passed over the call over to me.
While speaking to Laura I told her I was Vegan, and as the meals where included could they make sure the chef knew, I was informed this would be done.
I know being vegan can be an issue for set menu restaurants, that’s why I called to give notice. ( I rang again a week later)
During our stay, the first day, I book a table for dinner, telling the staff again I am a vegan. That night the options for food are clearly not vegan, asked if the chef could offer me something. I was told I could have melon for starters; the risotto on the menu could be made vegan, desert, fruit and sorbet. Now as much as I love fruit, it is a bit of a cheats option. There are many people now a days who have lactose and other intolerances so surely there should be more options than this.
Then came lunch the next day, not one member of staff (restaurant or reception staff) seemed to know what food we could choose from. In the end we were told to choose from the normal lunch menu. Then came the question which food is vegan, should I just say I gave up waiting. Choosing something that I believed should normally be vegan.
The worst experience was the final dinner meal. Having looked at the menu there was clearly nothing that was vegan. I asked waiting staff to check what could be done. After a very long wait, I was told the soup was vegan, great I though, I was then given main options of FISH. I eat no animal product and no flesh; I had stated this on every occasion. Fish is not vegan, had the food that I had already eaten during my stay been vegan. I am vegan for animal welfare beliefs, thank god it's not a health issue, I really could have been ill. Instead it's just my character and morals that could have been destroyed. In the end I got a veg curry, oh and yes fruit for desert (Boring). Both of our meals at dinner this night where Luke warm!
There are many people who are often unable to eat certain thing, for health or moral beliefs. We are not unusual, so why was I made to feel so bad. I had given your hotel lots of notice and you still got it wrong. I hope for my sake I didn't eat anything I shouldn’t have:-(

The hotel is shabby. The Pool was freezing. The fact I am vegan was used to make me feel horrid and awkward. Not worth the amount I paid and a really let down for a Birthday treat.

A great escape for pure pampering at a very reasonable price. Me and my sister enjoyed every minute of it, the staff were helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had access to all the facilities pool, sauna and steam room, evening meal was delightful and the breakfast offered several choices including self serve full english. Our beauty treatments were professionally carried out and the therapist was really lovely and made it a relaxing experience. Really enjoyed our weekend and will certainly be looking to return.

All staff were welcoming and friendly - facial good - however pool, sauna, steam room facilities were dated and in need of a refurb, beware there are swimming lessons taking place at certain times of the day. Sauna and steam room small so can easily get crowded if more than three of you are in there!

I went here with my friend for my special holiday. Maybe I expected too much..
We had to wait for our massage for 10 mins but this was absolutely alright as the staff was very nice.
However, the massage wasn't so great...We were taken to the spa place but we should've given robe and slipper..As this was our first time for using spa, we didn't know that these were given so we had to dry ourselved with tissue in the toilet and the towel that was left by someoneelse..!! There wasn't Jacuzi either..The steaming room and sauna was very small..The hotel room was so so and the dinner was so so as well..For a change, the breakfast was great..Overall, it was so so experience but I wouldn't got there again.
