Aromatherapy Associates

We are proud to trace a direct line back to the very beginnings of modern aromatherapy. Our studies began in the 1970s when Geraldine and Sue both trained under Micheline Arcier, student of aromatherapy founders Marguerite Maury, an Austrian biochemist and skincare pioneer, and Jean Valnet M.D., an expert in the science of essential oils.

This association with aromatherapy's earliest practitioners has provided an ongoing link to the traditional principles of aromatherapy and the benefits essential oils bring when applied in the right way.

Since those early days, Geraldine and Sue have maintained a deep passion for teaching, practising and blending oils. In 1985 Aromatherapy Associates was established to share the benefits of aromatherapy through a range of therapeutic-grade products and treatments. We've continued to develop and expand and our products are now sold at exclusive hotels, spas and retail outlets in over 30 countries worldwide.

Our company brings together a team of talented and committed people with unique and complementary skills. With experience in spas, therapy, product development and retail, we understand your business from every angle. Our hands-on approach enables us to provide a comprehensive service at every level. Thanks to our experience we develop products that therapists themselves love to use.

We are dedicated to sharing the positive benefits of essential oils as widely as possible. It's more than a business for us; it's a way of life. That's why in 1985 we helped set up the International Federation of Aromatherapists, an organisation dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of aromatherapy across the industry.

Our outlook is global, our approach about partnership, and we'll continue to use our skills and enthusiasm to build successful relationships with the world's best spas and hotels.

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for their exquisite aromas and natural healing powers. Rich in essential nutrients and antioxidants, plant oils encourage radiant, healthy skin, working at a cellular level to keep the complexion soft and looking youthful. By harnessing their therapeutic properties, aromatherapy works to improve our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Essential oils are made up of very small molecules, which means they can easily enter the blood stream, bringing their unique healing properties to every cell of the body. They are used to help ease muscular aches and pains, improve circulation and ease sinus congestion. They also have a positive effect on the skin, penetrating into the deeper layers to encourage the process of cellular renewal, enhance blood circulation and help problems such as acne, eczema and ageing skin.

Linked to the areas of the brain governing instinct, memory and emotion, our sense of smell is the most primitive of our senses. Through the pathways between smell and the deep centres of the brain, essential oils can have a dynamic effect on our emotional state. They can help transform our moods and move us from one state of mind to another.

Our treatments are firmly based on the traditional principles of aromatherapy developed by Marguerite Maury in the 1950s. Using eastern and western massage techniques, they stimulate the nervous system to release congestion and re-balance areas of the body affected by physical or mental stress. At the same time, the essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream enhancing cell renewal, circulation and detoxification, while their aromas act on the deepest parts of the brain to enhance our mood and emotions.

I had a deep cleanse facial. I thought the experience was fantastic & my skin is now glowing. I would definitely go back & highly recommend. My therapist (from memory her name was Laura) was excellent.

I visted the boutique a few weeks ago with my partner and felt the need to write a review about my experience with AA
Walking in we were greeted by the Manager of the boutique Jeylan (if spelt correctly) she delivered impeccable service she was attentive and very polite even gave us an insight to the bespoke peices within the boutique which gave it that extra special touch, shortly after we were shown our rooms spoken to in detail about products and techniques that would be used during the massage, this gave us a chance to mention any problem areas and concerns. I was very impressed with the vast knowledge of the products on offer.
The massage was perfect in every way the right amount of pressure was applied the massage was just as amazing the abience made us feel very relaxed and the calm surrounding just added to an already perfect experience.

Ending the massage we were given the option of a selection of herbal tea's of our choice along with some healthy snacks with an overview of aftercare, we were gifted with some samples of the amazing oils which I will be pruchasing on my return.
I have travelled and been to many spas around the world I can honestly say service that Aromatherapy Associates in Knightsbridge delievered impeccable and would most certainly recommend visiting this spa/boutique.
It made us feel special and all the worlds worries were left at the door, what an amazing day thank you to all the staff especially the manager with her kind words and warm presence.
10/10 for our overall experience.

I love this spa! It is so relaxing and civilised. From the moment you walk in and have a consulation with the therapist until you finish the treatment and relax with a nice a cup of tea - the whole experience is so soothing! The consultants listen and treat you accordingly. I definitely reccomend it and will be going back very soon.

Its a lovely salon, and very swish and comfortable, but I bought a 90 min massage and I think it lasted 70-75 mins for the actual massage, the rest of the time was taken up with a 'how are you feeling?' chat with the therapist, sniffing different oils, getting changed and redressed - all lovely to have, but I'd rather have had 90 mins of actual massage. The take home gift set selected for me (billed on Wahanda as worth £25) was actually a free GWP with Valentine's purchases (I know, because I got one with a purchase at that time) - again, very lovely, but the GWP, together with the short-changing on treatment time felt like, at best, overselling.

One of the best spas I've been to in London. My therapist, Michelle, is very passionate about her job and her excellent product knowledge is unbeatable.
The consultation was very thorough and Michelle correctly pointed out that I was using the wrong oil to try and destress (I was using Deep Relax in my bath before going to bed and she recommended Destress instead).
After evaluating my situation and deciding that boosting my immune system was the key priority, she worked with deep, precise pressure on my muscles especially my shoulders as I requested.
The warm welcome, tea and nibbles and delightful Aromatherapy Associates samples were exquisite gestures.
I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Best salon ever. My absolute favourite both for the results and the ambiance. Great location too. A bit expensive but you can see and feel the difference. Great samples to take home every time.

The best facial I have ever had or could imagine. Just perfect in every respect - from lovely staff to tea and nibbles afterwards to baby-soft skin after and beautiful decor. No hard sell of products and a lovely gift to take home as well as a selection of samples. Would very happily return.

Aromatherapy Associates have a lovely new salon in Knightsbridge. Staff are friendly but my therapist had a bit of an awkward manner which made me feel not as relaxed as I could be. I opted for a body treatment and after the initial exfoliation I was told to jump in the shower, however there was a problem as there was no hot water!

My therapist also tried to sort out the water problem but with no success and as all the other rooms were occupied I was given what felt like a 'bed bath' with my therapist using hot towels to remove the exfoliant. My treatment therefore was 'interrupted' with my having to wait on the bed whilst my therapist fiddled with the shower and checked to see if other therapy rooms were free.

Lovely gift with this offer and tasty snacks and drink - shame the actual treatment felt like a bit of a let down due to therapist and poor shower facilities. I won't be returning.

Aromatherapy Associates have long made a name for themselves as one of the preeminent skincare brands and found in the most prestigious spas around the world. This small boutique in the heart of knightsbridge is the first time they have opened their own spa and its worth the wait.

Upstairs is a stylish shop filled with the latest from their skin, bath and aromatherapy lines. Downstairs are two beautifully designed treatment rooms and a comfortable waiting area. I had a facial which I loved. At the beginning of the session, the therapist took me through a set of diagnostic questions and then recommended the best aromatherapy oils for my skin and state of mind. The products are top quality and the therapists are very knowledgeable.

This is not a huge spa but the location is hard to beat and the treatments are really great -- especially if you are a fan of aromatherapy (which I am).
