Apples Health Club St Jonhs Wood part of Apples Health Clubs

The Apples Health Club of today started out as undeniably Essex’s premier club established over 28 years ago. Most people in the local area have very fond memories of their time at Apples Gym, Ilford before the influx of the large corporate gyms such as David Lloyd and Virgin.

Paul Spelling purchased the club just 2 years ago turning it around from a tired gym to a fantastic health club that has increased its membership by over 700 in the two short years under his careful and dedicated guidance. The club has undergone extensive refurbishment to include a new Sauna in the men’s changing room, C.V equipment, free-weights, fixed weights and a fully equipped boxing gym.

Paul has more than two decades of experience in the fitness industry beginning when he studied at the University of Santa Barbara, California on an athletic scholarship. The culmination of these studies was that Paul obtained a sports science degree in his chosen subject.

Apples Health Clubs have now expanded their portfolio to include what was formerly known as Grays Health and Fitness in St Johns Wood High Street. The club's history is that of a well established personal training gym which has been operating for over twelve years.

Susan and Paul are now engaged in planning the expansion of the club's services to include group training classes, bootcamps, fitness holidays, massage and osteopathy. They also intend to introduce beauty treatments and non-surgical procedures. One thing is paramount to all who have met with Susan and Paul in their professional capacity – they are both experienced and dedicated to providing the best possible service they believe their clients deserve.

The massage was divine, leaving me feeling revived and relaxed and ready to bounce all the way home. The gym had facilities for a tea before-hand and seating area and was generally clean and modern. The massuese was excellent with a very pleasant manner. My only real complaint was that the lockers seemed to be akward to get to grips with using my key (I also confused myself over where I was supposed to change). I can recommend this place to anyone.

Hi Lcgj1983

I always ask clients before their massage to tell me if they are too hot or too cold during the session as the heater temperature can be adjusted. I’m sorry that you didn’t feel able to do this.
However, I am glad that you felt the 50% offer was good value for money.

this place is very easy to find, on the high street about 5 mins walk from st johns wood station. it is located in a gym but was nonetheless clean and quiet when i went in the early afternoon. the masseuse was very kind and gave a decent massage, not the best i have had but not bad. she played relaxing music and dimmed the lights which really helped me to unwind.

my only complaint would be is that the session didnt last for a full hour about 10 mins was spent on filling out forms, asking medical questions etc then she finished about 5 mins early.

but overall good experience

I’m sorry you felt short changed with the time spent on your massage. I would like to take this opportunity to explain that as a professional therapist I have to prioritise your safety and that includes ensuring that I ask you certain questions to ensure you are safe to treat. Sometimes pain that feels like a musculoskeletal problem may not be caused by a musculoskeletal problem and also, deep tissue massage is not suitable for all musculoskeletal problems.

As much as I would like to give a full hour massage, the reality is I have to finish five minutes early to give you time to get changed, leave the room and get set up for the next client in time for their appointment. If every client had exactly 60 minutes on the couch, after 5 clients I would be running at least 25 minutes late. That is not an acceptable amount of time for any client to wait.

I’m pleased that overall you had a good experience.

The location is within a gym on St Johns Wood highstreet. The initial consultation with the osteopath is very thorough. The treatment was good and my body felt looser and more balanced after the visit. I would recommend.

Is a gym place, so is not the best environment for a massage and can be quite noisy for few seconds.

the therapist was very good and attentive

liked the massage

Although the ambience is quite clean and neutral (the place is a gym after all) the deep tissue massage I had booked was very good. The masseuse really focused on the muscular tensions I had mentioned, which was great. Definitely will return.

The Apples Health Club has a rather clinical atmosphere, it was very empty and quiet, which meant I was not disturbed by noises coming from the gym during my massage. The massage therapist was very good and very professional. The massage itself was very relaxing.
