Day Spas

Day Spas

Day spas are sanctuaries of health, beauty and wellbeing, sometimes called metro-spas, urban spas or drop-in spas. If you are looking for a spa day, these are the perfect escape from your nine-to-five. Like a mini-holiday, you can book into a day spa for the whole day to use the facilities or just pop in for a one-off pamper session. Some of the most famous day spas are the ladies-only Sanctuary and Waterfall spas, skincare paradise Elemis and the eco-friendly Titanic Spa.

Day spas can be found anywhere from suburban shopping centres to boutique high-street locations. While some day spas are very compact with just a reception area and a couple of treatment rooms, they can be much larger with a full-complement of facilities including a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, yoga studio, fully-equipped gym and a number of treatment rooms. This means during your day at the spa you can combine a couple of treatments with a workout in the cardio suite, perhaps a pilates class and a long soak in the hot tub. Overall, the emphasis is on creating a calm, relaxing environment where you can kick back in your robe, read your book, have a swim, steam yourself crinkly and leave feeling rested and rejuvenated.

Whether it's a posh countryside day spa or a glam city retreat, a day spa will offer a range of beauty treatments. Most day spa treatments fall into three main types - those that relax you, those that beautify you and those that do both! Among the most popular treatments are facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, knot-busting Thai massage, relaxing Swedish massage. head massage, skin-nourishing body wraps and exfoliating body scrubs. Many day spa treatments are designed to remedy the damage a busy life can do to your skin, hair and nails, but often there are also more 'alternative' day spa therapies on offer such as reiki, reflexology, EFT and light therapy. Your treatment will take place in a separate treatment room where you can relax in peace and privacy.

As well as pampering yourself until you're glowing with health, you can often indulge in afternoon tea and a glass of champers at a day spa. Ok, it might not be the healthiest of treats, but a giggle with the girls (or guys) in the lounge or cafe area can polish off an afternoon of preening beautifully.

A spa day is the perfect way to spend a stag or hen day (and a great warm-up for the night ahead). Whether you're trying to organise an event like a team building day for your colleagues, a bonding session with your mum or you just want a day of serene relaxation on your own, you'll find a day spa ticks all the right boxes.
