Welcome to a highly individual hotel company.
But you won't recognise a bespoke hotel by a corporate logo woven into the carpet. Each of these properties is tailored throughout to enhance its essential character and to meet the needs of you, the discerning guest. The only common factors are great service and a flair for hospitality. Plus a recognition that you want to be treated like an individual, not a room number.
I wanted a last minute deal that was good value for money, had availability for treatments, included lunch, and was an attractive spa setting with the usual facilities, within a certain radius. This ticked all of the boxes. I am not a professional lady of leisure with a diploma in spa going - I wanted a surprise treat for my friend's birthday involving a child-free day of relaxation & pampering. I found that reading other reviews whilst I was trying to select a spa deal really confused me & stressed me out - different people clearly have different expectations & it can be difficult to decipher from a review. I was able to book 2 Be Calm days at Risley Hall hotel online 4 nights before I wanted to go & was able to call & book 2 treatments the following morning, including an upgrade (I left a message at 9am, someone called back within an hour). I had a bit of difficulty finding the hotel (don't follow Google maps) & was a bit confused/perturbed that it seemed to share a site with a Retirement Village including a hotch potch of chalet-style bungalows & rather ugly modern buildings which did not exactly compliment the architecture of the original Risley Hall, but once inside it was lovely, light & airy with a comfortable lounge/bar area where lunch was served & soothing, stylish treatment rooms. The therapists hosted as well as providing treatments and they were absolutely lovely, if perhaps a little stretched over lunch. The therapies were absolutely fantastic (herbal lavender facial & full body massage) & we enjoyed being able to use the small gym as well as the pool/steam room, etc. We liked the big windows in the pool area as it was lovely to have the sun streaming in but there was a thoroughfare just outside limiting privacy if that is of importance to you. Lunch included a spread of hot & cold selections & hit the spot for us but it isn't haute cuisine if that is what you are looking for.
In summary, it was exactly what I was looking for and actually exceeded my expectations for the price and last minute nature. I have been to a few spas before but am definitely not a connoisseur. However, I liked the intimacy of Risley compared to some of the big names and I can honestly say that we both came away feeling very relaxed & completely pampered, so thank you Risley & Wahanda!!
