Wahanda tried and tested: Waxing at The Soho Salon

Just because the swimwear season has passed, doesn’t mean it’s time to let bikini maintenance go awry. Whatever your waxing style and habits, finding that perfect venue can be rather tricky and a nuisance you can do without. With this in mind, we tested out London-based location The Soho Salon...

The venue

The Soho Salon has an easy location down Carlisle Street, just off central shopping destination Oxford Street, so plenty of tube links are a short walk away. Tucked at the end of the road, you can’t miss its bright pink sign and as you enter you're hit by its cool, calm contemporary vibes. With chunky black beaded chandeliers, large mirrors and trendy accents of hot pink against the white walls and flooring, this salon oozes style.

The treatment

I’ve never really dabbled in waxing except for a leg wax in my teens which I wasn’t that impressed by, so when I opted for a Brazilian waxing treatment, I was slightly apprehensive but feeling brave.

My treatment was performed by a trainee with the assistance of an expert therapist, and even though this may have struck fear into the groins of many a woman, both therapists were very professional. They put me at ease, checking the wax temperature was right and that I was comfortable.

The treatment room was tiny – as you opened the door to come in it hit the side of the treatment bed, so with two of them crowded in, it was a bit of a squeeze. However, it was nicely presented with mirrors on the walls and continuing the sleek white theme.

They spent most of the treatment conversing together, with the main therapist demonstrating techniques and talking to the trainee. They used a mixture of both hot and strip wax, with tweezers afterwards so stray hairs didn’t stand a chance. I won’t lie, the treatment was sore, but it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting and it hasn’t put me off having another one in the future.

The results

As a maintenance treatment, I can definitely see the appeal. It doesn’t take too long yet the results really last and keep everything nice and tidy. I would visit The Soho Salon again as their venue is just so accessible and easy to find right in central London, which is brilliant. They provide an efficient service that gets the job done, and the staff were perfectly polite during the treatment – even if I did feel a little ignored at times due to the number of staff versus me packed in a small venue.

Being a rather nosy and curious person means that I am always intrigued by new treatments, products and places, and I always enjoy trying out new things. As a Copywriter here at Wahanda, I've definitely picked up a few things about the massive variety of beauty and wellness treatments available, but with such a vast array of choice, there is always more to sample and learn about!
